Victory Motorcycles is dead...

Polaris is pulling the plug. It seems as if the Indian brand may be more profitable.

WOW! The guys I know who ride Victory are some of the most loyal and satisfied customers of any brand that I can think of. I test rode an Indian at Bikes Blues and BBQ just last year. If I had had a choice between test riding an Indian or a Victory just for grins...probably would have chosen the Indian. My guess is the majority of potential buyers are doing the same.

Well made, advanced motorcycle with no market appeal, that distinguishes it from similar offerings by Kawasaki, Honda or Yamaha.

Over all a better made motorcycle then Harley. Just could not over come the Harley image. My neighbors Vision looks much better without the trunk.

The motorcycle business has sucked since 2008 unless you are a global player selling a gazillion mopeds in Europe and Asia, or you are geared to be a really good niche player such as Ducati, for example. It's a shame they are closing the Victory brand. They are not my kind of bike at all, but I always recognized that they had a passion for the bikes. They are the only company that I think was truly a formidable competitor to Harley in terms of the functionality and style of the bikes, and as a U.S. company.

I think this is part of the over crowded cruiser market where each bike looks like the next. While I am not a fan of the Vision's looks with the trunk at least it stood out from the rest of the cruisers. The Honda and BMW models are based on current bikes but also look different. I never want to own another Harley or Harley look alike.

I think Indians are built in USA as well. At least according to Wikipedia.

Euro 4 and the three year compliance to Euro 5 have just killed the first of the big inefficient V twins to save the penguins. Polaris will
Put their money into saving the small model
Line up in the Indian range that'll cost less money to make compliant. Harley Davidson will be next to either drop half their range or go the same way.

Intersting that 12 months ago I had an email from Polaris, that said that they had no intention of developing the Slingshot brand outside of the USA. I wonder if this means a change of plans?
