Techmount Alternative to Ram Mount for Radar and GPS Mounting

I used to use RAM mounts. Very versatile and easy to use. A while back I switched to Techmounts for some things. They have been a flexible and secure way for me to mount GPS and radar detectors.

For those looking for a way to mount radar, a second GPS or to relocate the Nav IV away from the factory spot this may work. The Zumo is attached with a Techmount 3-21007 and Techmount 60007 mounting plate for the Zumo. The radar detector is attached with another Techmount 3-21007. Techmounts are available from Home | Rocket Moto: Sena Bluetooth, Clearwater Lights, Autocom. When I'm using an Escort or Bel radar detector I swap the top plate out on the radar mount for a magnetic mount from Ram. It is RAP-300 IU. This Ram plate has you attach a metal plate to the bottom of the radar detector with supplied two sided tape. It uses magnets in the base to pull and hold the metal plate mounted on the radar detector to the Ram plate.

The challenge I had with Ram mounts were they looked a bit sloppy and tended to loosen up while on the road and my level of adjustment was more limited with the Ram mounts vs. the Techmounts. For things which I mount temporarily like a camera I still like Ram. For more permanently mounted like the extra GPS or radar the Techmounts have worked better for me.

Ralphie, I see you have your Autocom PTT mounted over where they put it for me. I found it to be too far to reach comfortably so I found a good alternative mounting place. I used double sided carpet tape and mounted it to the upper clutch lever housing...the part that doesn't move of course. I can easily reach it with my index finger and haven't had any problems at all with it there. Just thought I'd pass along my tidbit of information.

I like your set up for the radar detector and need to get mine mounted soon; while I still have my license.:eek:

That location was one I considered too. I primarily have the PTT as a way to defeat the VOX in the few times I use the phone when riding. I was trying to blend aesthetics and function. If my location proves too obstructed I'll give that a try. Thanks for the tip.
