Phone connection help

I have a Motochello system on my bike and thought I could still pair my phone to the Nav5 and be able to use my phone. However when I pair to the navigation it says I need a Bluetooth device or a car cradle and then it un- pairs. I know I could connect my phone to the motochello system with a wired connection, but I would rather stay Wireless if I could. Does anybody have any experience with this? I really don't want to change over to a new wireless system.

This is one fro Chop96, he's a Motochello guru. But as a government employee (US Navy) I'm sure he's working and won't be able to respond until after taps.

You cannot pair the phone to the Nav V and then be able to use it for two way conversation through the Motochello. There are limitations in both the BMW system which assumes you will use a Bluetooth headset for the phone and the Motochello system which does not use Bluetooth for two way communication which prevent this from working via Bluetooth.

The two options that I used to work around this were

  1. Use the Aux 1 port on the Motochello to connect the phone via a cable
  2. I had added a Zumo in addition to the Nav V. I paired my phone to the Zumo via Bluetooth and then connected the Zumo to the Aux 1. This gave me control of the phone via a glove friendly screen on the Zumo, gave me a Bluetooth connection from the phone to Zumo and hard wired connection from Zumo to Motochello.
I was coming from Autocom to Motochello. While Motochello offered many positive features over Autocom, the inability to offer a 2 way Bloetooth connection I had come accustomed to with Autocom was not ideal. I could work around it but it is disappointing that two years after Motochello said they would have a 2 way Bluetooth dongle (great word), available that they don't seem to have one on the horizon even today. It does put a noticeable limitation on an otherwise excellent and complete system.

I have a J&M Integrator IV which is similar to the Motochello set up in that everything needs to be hard wired. When I tried pairing my iPhone to the GPS I got the same message you did. So I'm hardwired to the J&M and with it's protocol system I can answer or call from my phone and that will over ride any other audio coming into the Integrator. I have a Ramball type holder mounted to the pivot point of the handlebars and run the wire to the phone (along with a power wire) from my tank bag that holds the integrator. A quick unplug when I get off the bike plus the phone is always fully charged.

Thank you guys for sharing your knowledge. I will probably try a phone mount and wire it to the Motochello. I don't use my phone a lot but it could be handy to have it available except for rainy conditions.
