K1600GTL Drilling/Boring out Stock Exhaust

Has anybody done this to modify the sound and give some extra boost to the horses? If so, did you drill all 6 ports or a select few? How big were the holes you drilled? Thanks for any info in advance.

You only have to drill 2 ports on each side as the center is done. I first drilled mine 1/4 in and it was better. However since then I have enlarged to 5/8s. It is a little louder than a GT.
I broke several bits because it is hard stainless you are drilling into.
. I hope this helps.

Any pictures of the process and did it cause any backfiring? Also, was the fuel economy affected one way or the other?

Sound and performance

I created 3/8 to 1/2 inch holes in the four sealed tubes. I have not ridden with this mod yet. Tomorrow, through Sun headed out on a rally here in WA state. I do have the PowerBooster plug installed. More to follow on Monday............ Well, Monday came and went I have been too busy to get back. But noticed what sounded to me like a deeper growl from the modification. No backfiring, no popping at all. I will probably install the Remus headers next year then see how that sounds/feels.

Evil empire (home depot) has extra long drill bits I chose Milwaukee, started out 1/4 inch went to 3/8 used a 3/8 drive 110 volt drill, kept lots of oil on the ends of bit. Sound was great. Not satisfied used a extra long punch and opened them up a little more, like 1/2 inch, now the sound is ever better, especially above 4k

This mod really has me chomping at the bits to do it. Did the reduced back pressure cause any backfiring on deceleration or otherwise for those who have performed this mod?

I too drilled mine out. Mine are at 3/8. It sounds great at all RPMs, especially in the lower range while rolling onto the throttle. As fear as performance I have note experienced anything I can tell either way. I don't keep track of my mileage either, so no idea on that.

I noticed no improvement in performance and no loss in MPG but the sound is a lot better.
