The Unhappy K1600 Onwers' Thread: Problems, let's hear about yours

We could use this thread to list our issues thus far:

Major issue:

The starter will spin, but the bike does not start. After a few tries, the solenoid clicks and the starter engages the motor and the bike starts. This has happened 3 times. One time, I had to hit the starter button 11 times. The other times, I had to try twice and then three times. This is definitely not confidence inspiring. It's not the battery, I checked. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this, because telling the dealer about it isn't going to resolve it if the bike starts when it's in his shop.

Other issues:

My top case was shipped with the inner light non functioning. My dealer attempted to rectify this by ordering a new topcase light and wiring harness. After several attempts, the dealer determined that the top case wiring harness is wired wrong at the factory. And the replacement topcase wiring harness is also wired wrong. Furthermore, he also told me that the topcase lock is also wired backwards, it unlocks when the panniers lock and it locks when the panniers unlock. Since I've only used the panniers once, and ride 99% of the time with only the topcase, I did not notice this. He checked the voltage coming from the bike end of the harness and it's powered correctly.

Ipod drops out suddenly and says "No USB", this is a regular occurrence.
USB memory stick does the same

Nav IV GPS froze once only.

Since this is a new bike, let's hear from others with similar problems to see if there's a pattern, like we have established with the "No USB" issue, or a random issue, like my starter.

Turn signal/High-Low beam switch not functioning. Reminiscent of the K13S issues. On order for 2 weeks, just came in.

I haven't had any of the issues you listed happen with my GTL. Sorry to hear you ended up with a problem. What is your dealer saying?

Mingo, try refueling from a different place than where you usually go, and use throttle when trying to start the bike to see if that helps.

The only issue I have had was the Navigator IV quitting twice. I rubbed dielectric grease on the contacts. Worked on the Zumo 550 when it did the same thing.

Not having grease on the contact points led to little wear points where the contact touched the pad. It was seeing this that caused me to start adding the grease. The wear point might have been a small hole. But then, the GSA does vibrate a bit more than the K16.

LOL! Those GTO's are sweet machines but they sure as heck won't do 0-60 in 3.2 sec, nor will they crack an 11 second quarter mile. I would have loved to have seen that!

The chrome trim pieces on both side boxes are coming loose on each end. Dealer has ordered new ones. In the mean time I took the worst one off and used a heat gun to bend it to match the box and 3M double sided taped it in place it is now fine but has a few hairline cracks you can see if you are up close and looking. The only other issue is the rear tire pressure monitor looses connection and reads zero and throws a warning light but this happens about 1% of the time.
