Unhappy Reverse polarity jump start attempt

It was hot, I was flustered, the bike didn't want to do as it was told. The battery had died, and I had no idea how dead it was.
I attempted to jump start the bike with a set of jumperleads from my car, and unwittingly reversed the polarity of the leads...
Alarm sounded on the bike and I soon figured out my mistake.
Be honest with me people, have I just killed my K?

Maybe not, may have blown a main fuse, put in a new battery and see.

Reversed Polarity on Jumping

You may have been saved by the CanBus system.
Lucky it did not start, it would have gone backwards!

Likely no problem. How long did it take until you figured out that you reversed polarity?

Probably about 10 seconds. An internal alarm was screaming at me alerting me to the problem.

New battery and off you go it seems. Over here I have to wait another 3 months......and not for a new battery.

You should be fine. Any electrical systems designer worth their weight would engineer in reverse polarity protection. It's pretty much standard these days and it's cheap and easy to do, so I'm sure the K1600 would have it - not to mention the CANBUS system should protect from this. The fact that the alarm sounded might be a result of this protection. Check main fuse, add new battery and she should fire right up. Even if the main fuse is still good, I'd look into getting it replaced anyway.

Keep us posted!

Thank you everyone for your support, ideas and suggestions. It seems it was just a battery after all, I put a new one in and voila! It turned over and ran like a kitten. I plugged the Sat Nav back in and left it overnight, got up this morning and the bike started just fine. Now if you'll excuse me, this happy lad is going for a ride!
