My main problem was with an improperly fitted helmet (too large).
Left upper spine at neck & arm pain.
Gone with proper fitting helmet although I start to get reminiscing of the pain after a straight 700 miles or so.

I find that the keys to pain free riding are. Get the bike adjusted to fit you not a standard person. Also ride with good posture. I just finished 3 weeks on the GTLE and 900 miles over 2 days on the RTP. Both bikes are set up similar, the GTLE is a little more relaxed and has a RDL saddle.

SmokinJoe beat me to it... make sure your helmet is not too heavy and fits properly. Also, the way the air is hitting on your helmet (shield quality and adjustments).
Posture is a big thing as well... if your body is used to being in a certain posture and the bike is distorting that, it will cry out. Unfortunately bikes are not one size fits all... gotta Farkle a bit sometimes.

The discomfort you are describing sound just like mine. I added the bar risers a few years ago and it solved my issue 100%. If you reach for the bars even a little it causes most people to "slump" their back and "crunch" their neck. This poor posture catches up with you quick causing pain and discomfort. Bars that are a little closer and a little higher promote better posture and all day comfort.

Don't forget to get the doc to xray your necks, c-spine compression will put pressure on the spinal cord and produce over excitation of the nerves

I've read here where a few guys put GT bars on their GTL and solved their problem.

Seems odd, though.

The typical crotch rocket rider rides with their neck bent upwards so that they can see while leaned way forward. This should cause problems like I've heard of that aircraft mechanics used to have, due to looking up at their work a lot during the day. I've heard several tell me of having to have neck surgery due to the constant neck damage from the head tilted back/upwards.

Everybody is different, and you have to figure out what is going to work best for you.

Thanks for all you do,
Darryl
