My other ride is an S1000RR

I wonder how much faster the S-bike is going to be compared to the K1600? I will be picking up the K1600 this week.

The K1600 is *extremely* fast as a touring bike... but if going up against an S bike, your only hope is to be a better rider

The beauty of this bike is that, if set up right, you can put in a comfortable 1,200 mile day getting to the twisty roads, grab a room, get up the next morning, and keep up with the boys on the little crotch rockets pretty darned well! (I say "little" crotch rockets because I think of the K1600 as a big crotch rocket.) Oh, and my GPS says my GTL has hit 140 mph.

I think they should have programed the GTL so that when you remove the top box and unplug it, the governor would be lifted to go past 140.
Dumb idea?

I don't know, 140 plenty fast for real-world riding. I love the torque, though, as it makes passing darned-near effortless. It's not uncommon, at all, that I have an urge to pass someone (knowing I have more than enough room) but don't as I realize it'll scare the bejesus out of people because they don't know what I know.

... and the torque curve being so massive in the low end, not even a need to downshift.

Different tools for different jobs. I test rode an RR 3 days ago and can't stop thinking about it. It was limited to 9,000 rpm though for the break in period which was probably a good thing for my first ride.
