The huge jugs are in exactly the position where the riders feet should be to be a Harley alternative. The seating position requiring a tight knee angle is a joke. Conflict of interests so to speak. Just sayin'

My son has an 08 GSA and its his daily commuter. Twice a car changed lanes w/o looking right into the heads. Only goy scrapes on the crash bar and VC shield, he commented both times the heads protected his foot.

R18 shows a nod to the past. Pin strip paint, rear swing arm?

Cruisers aren't generally my cup of mojo, but I have owned them before. Even lusted after the iconic power cruisers of the late '80s. These low-slung ill-handling boulevard profilers... not so much.

As far as styling goes, I'm not particularly fond of the Bauhaus art deco vintage, to which this bike seems to pay homage.

So overall, a big old meh.

Man, I like everything about it. Fluted headlamp, boxer motor, solo seat, sexy lines; very cool, looks like an instant classic. Put me in for the "LIKE" column.

So, 1/3 like it, 1/3 hate it, and 1/3 are on the fence. That describes just about any topic.

I don't get why the company that used to build the best bikes in all classes (GS, RT, K1600, & S1000RR) is trying to build the best bike of 1960? I don't get wasting a single R&D dollar on a huge air cooled low performance bike that's going to get strangled by EURO rules anyway. It's like the smartest kid in the class acting up to get expelled like the dumb kids do, Lol!

Anyway, Paint the dang huge crankcase black along with the cylinders with polished out fins. 100% better aesthetically. Look at the Ducati Diavel and the Rocket 3 and you really wonder how BMW expects to sell this.

BTW: the biggest group in your poll are probably the people who weren't moved enough to even post a comment on the thing. That's why it won't make it to the showrooms.

I've had a picture of the R18 on my desktop here in the office for about 10 days. All of the non bikers said WOW! I'd love one of those. And the bike riders responded with a muted mmmmmm er, nope, not for me.
So, a bike for people who don't ride bikes was my conclusion. Real reason for the non riders response is that they don't know what they would be letting themselves in for and the riders do!
