That does look real nice.

I just had a thought that might save $400-$500:

I wonder if there is enough material in the original seat to use as the insert of the new RDL? This would obviate the need to recover all the other pieces and maybe even save on materials for the new seat. Guess I have to make that call anyhow.

EDIT: Never mind that thought. Just took a look at the existing stitching and it's not likely to be adaptable. Oh well.

The Sunbrella is a fantastic option.

What does the Sunbrella do for you?

My first RDL was Vinyl and it worked great. The next two, I got leather. Felt nice, but really, it was no improvement over Vinyl and it requires more maintenance.

So I was planning to go back to Vinyl for the next one. Unless Sunbrella significantly better.

I just want all the bikes!

Does the dark stone vinyl closely match the BMW "platinum" color on the lower part of the topcase/saddlebags? It looks a lot darker in your photos.

Sunbrella doesn't get blisteringly hot not matter how long it sits in the sun. It gets warm, but that's it. It doesn't feel like you're sitting on the stove for the first 15-20 minutes after getting on the bike.

It is not, however, 100% waterproof.

^^^^^^^
This is one of the main reasons I chose Sunbrella......
The other is the seat sliding issue we've had with the OEM seat.......The Sunbrella is a lot more "grippy" and should eliminate this issue. We had to put a shelf liner on the seat to keep my wife in place.
Also, we ike the 2-tone effect.

My leather RDL seat is a bit slippy, but my Vinyl one wasn't iirc.

Interesting. Thanks!
