BMW Bag on top of the Top Box

Hello,

I have 14 KGTLX and wish to put a BMW storage bag on top of the top box. At this time, I do not wish to buy and install a rack to hold the bag. Bag was previously used on top of the K12LT top box with a rack.

I was thinking there might be a way to secure the bag on top of the top box without the use of a rack. I can put things I need to get at on the road during the day in a side bag or tank bag so getting into the top box during the day will not be necessary.

Anyone done this bag arrangement or have any suggestions?

Jack

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full.
All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Seems like a lot of weight for the top box and it's mounting plate

You sure it wouldn't be better to

A. Lihten your load or
B. Replace the whole top box ith a large dry bag. ???

Just asking, not trying to be insulting

I was faced with the same dilemma. I wanted the rack but with the top box cracking around the mounts I decided to just lay a piece of sheepskin on the top box and used a couple of tie down straps to secure my bag. I carried a couple of jackets. Worked great for me.

Yes, I like the picture and the bag attached with straps. I did not think of sheepskin to protect the top case.

And I definitely will not have heavy things in the bag. Clothes and other lightweight stuff.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I use a bag on top of the box with a wunderlich rack,,,as for the cracking problem, rocketmoto has the washers needed to aleviate that problem.

No problems with the rack nor topcase even after the wife packs the bag.

Plus 1 I had about 25 pounds on my rack for 6 days & 2800 miles on one trip with notcracking. I'll have about 20 pounds on it next week for 5 or 6 days,

+1. About 25 lbs on top of the rack with washers for over 3000 miles riding 2-up with no problems.

I use a bag without a rack - no problem (and less weight...)
