Connect iphone via USB to audio

Just bought the 2016 GTL-E. When I connect an IPOD or IPhone to the USB cable, it fails to see it. It continues to report "no USB". Any ideas on this?

Are you just using your charge/sync cable? It doesn't work that way. You need the special cable. Some will use the eBay knock off( I did ) and have some luck. But to have a good consistent connection, get the BMW cable.
Edit, not sure if they make a lightning cable yet, may need the adaptor as well , 30 pin to lightning

As others have posted, you need the BMW cable, then Apple adapter (lightning, if you need it). I purchased a longer adapter (6in ?) so I could snake it back and forth. The shorter adapter was too stiff and kept pulling out...

Also, someone mentioned here that BMW makes a lightning adapter for the car that worked...

MS Steve, where are you? If anywhere near Broomfield, CO, I can hook you up with the necessary cables. I have the BMW cable, but never use it.

You could skip the cables and Bluetooth it directly to your helmet. The sound quality will be much better than running it thru the bike then to the helmet.

Darby has it right. Bluetooth the phone to the helmet and the helmet to the bike. I use a Scala Rider g9x and a Tune2air dongle connected to the jacks in the right side cubby. I mounted my iPhone to the bars along with a USB jack and a short black lightning cord. My phone is charging as I ride. I can see the phone's GPS app, Waze app and escort live app (for my radar detector that is also paired to my phone). I get GPS audio from the Nav V, audio radar info, music stored on my phone, telephone with hands off call and answer and, if I chose to use a GPS app on my phone, audio from that too. I can opt for the bike's Serius or am or fm radios or music on a memory stick in the right hand cubby. I can control the music from my phone from the wonder wheel (but not the volume for music from my phone. I do that from the g9x) I use ear buds so the sound quality is more than acceptable.

BMW makes a lightning cable: 61122408012

You can add a Tune2Air dongle to the cable if you want to connect wirelesly and still access your iPhone library:

I would warn against an iPod or iPhone in the right faring pocket connected via any cable....

The heat in that pocket is intense and more than likely cause issues with the device.....myself and many others have had issues.
Regardless, that intense heat can't be good for any electronics.

As others said, I recommend BT to your helmet.....or use a USB stick in the pocket instead.

Yup, the heat will turn your phone off and it won't restart until it cools off if ever. A Tune2air dongle does not overheat in the cubby and allows you to access your phone's music through the wonder wheel except volume.
