Would love to order and RDL but would rather have a spare seat to send to get updated. Does anyone have a seat for the 2016 GTLE?

In March of last year a lucky tip from a forum member pointed me to Max BMW (South Windsor, CT location IIRC), who was selling new K1600B seats for $400, about 50% off, so I snapped up one and they shipped directly to RDL for my build. Not sure if you can repeat such luck with a GTL seat, but if you decide to contact them, ask for Dwight in parts.

FWIW when I saw your post this morning, I looked around on EBay and saw a few listings for 2016 K1600 GTL seats...might be worth a look. If you’re buying used, the seating surfaces don’t have to be in good shape, just the seat pan. RDL will strip whatever seat you send them...new or used...down to the pan and build it up new from there.

There are some lightly used K16 seats floating around out there. You can get some decent prices if you look around.

Note that the Exclusive seat is different than the normal GTL seat, as the Exclusive seat has a larger passenger area.

I don't know if this is padding only, or a difference in the plastic seat pan.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full.
All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

I have Black Sunbrella on the 2-piece GT seat (Kevin's), slate sunbrella 1 piece and leather one piece RDL's for the GTL. Cant have enough RDL's! (one came off my 2014 GTL). I have had 7 RDL's to this point and all of them have been fantastic!

As far as riding, the gap is unnoticeable.
How critical does having the backrest seem to be to you? I'm getting ready to order a seat, but I'm not sure about the backrest.

that depends on the individual. My posture is not the greatest, especially after a few hours. I would not travel on a bike without a back rest. and I leave mine on full time. I know lot's of guys that don't use or need one. If you are in doubt, get one. You can always remove it whenever you like.

Backrest not absolutely required, but almost. Two extruded discs on lower back. The GSA does not have one as I stand a lot. About an hour and a half would be my limit on the other two without one. As @Chris H said, if in doubt, order it. Easily removed. Also you would not have worry about sending the seat back to add it.

Another question on the backrest if you don't mind. How is it for the pillion from a leg perspective? My girlfriend is 5'7" with reasonably long legs. She is worried about feeling like she is in an Ob chair due to the width of the driver backrest. Can she sit like she would without me having a backrest with the backrest?

My wife is also 5'7". The back rest is kind of wedge shaped so that its narrow at the bottom and wider at the top. This allows her legs to pass on either side of the backrest comfortably. I don't think her positioning is any different if I remove the backrest. That's just her though and she is a very low maintenance passenger. Never a peep!
