Any way of determining which instrument cover you have?

Part of my Nav V is covered up by the bezel. It's a 2012 bike, so I assume the instrument cover is for the Nav IV, but I want to be certain before I spend the money on a replacement.

There is likely a BMW part number on the back of the part.

Check that number here or online.

Should be able to measure the size of the opening and compare with others.

When did the size change to accommodate the Nav V or VI? I'm picking up a new 2018 GTL soon and I've purchased the Nav VI. Is this something BMW will change out at no cost when buying a new bike and GPS?

In 2014 it was changed to fit the Nav V

Your 18 has been sized to fit the Nav VI, so no worries.

I did exactly what you planning on doing.....
Easy job to do. Bought the part (Shroud) Feb 2018 - cost about $45.
Perfect fit... remove windscreen, loosen 3 screws holding speakers, loosen 2 shroud screws (if memory serves me correctly) and shroud slides off - pull direction towards rear of bike, shroud will clip off...
Part No is; #46638546302
Just be extremely careful not to drop the GPS sliding mounting bracket screws down into the fairing!!
You may want to get the shroud & GPS perfectly aligned - just loosen off the 4 mounting screws.

Lots of riders here upgraded GPS and Instrument Cover when the Nav V came out, then upgraded again when the Nav VI came out.

So you might fine a used Nav V Instrument Cover there for a decent price.

And if not, they're only around $50 from BMW.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from . . .

Could be that early 2018 still feature the NaV 5 shroud. Was the case with my 4/17 built 18. BMW replaced it at no cost to me.

It was actually changed during the 2015 model year. A heads up...I recently ordered one from Bike Bandit when I was selling my 2015. I ordered the part number that their parts diagram showed for my bike. It was the old smaller one.

I spent a half hour on the phone with Bike Bandit trying to get them to take it back. Unfortunately I did not have the factory packaging because when I got it I took it out of the package and it sat on my workbench for a few weeks. I told them they should take it back because it was not the correct part. I knew it was not because it was not the same opening as what came on my bike, which was a late 2015 build. They would not take it back, and it's the only one they had listed for a 2015. So be careful ordering one.

As to the last post, I'm pretty sure the one for a Nav V and VI are the same. All you have to do is look up the part for a 2016 and a 2018. I'm sure others in the forum will know for sure though.

@jjscsix , nope V and VI don't take the same shroud. Over the years I've gone from the IV to the V to the VI; had to replace shroud with each upgrade.
