Trouble shifting through 3rd gear

Has anyone else experienced trouble when shifting out of 3rd gear?

I can shift 1-2-3 no problem, but it sometimes hangs up going into 4th.

Also 6-5-4-3 is fine, but then it can hang up going into 2nd.

Sometimes, I can shift back up/down a gear and it goes in, or sometimes I can (carefully) apply extra force to get it to shift.

It happens maybe 30% of the time, and it makes getting into lower gears at a stoplight rather difficult.

Note that I do have MULLACCMNOD's Short Throw Shift Linkage kit installed, but that had been working fine for well over a year.

Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this?

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from . . .

No I have other tranny issues. But I'd check the quick shift linkage. Might be binding.

Will do, but it's just 3rd gear, and the shifter stroke is the same for all gears.

I'm wondering if it's an issue with a shift fork or shift drum. Looks like this tranny uses separate parts for 1-2 and 3-4-5-6.

First thing I thought was shift fork, but since you have the shift kit I thought to eliminate all external possibilities.

Being a 2013 GTL, are you still on the original gearbox cluster, or has it been changed out during warranty?

With the gear lever hanging briefly, it sounds like either a binding element in the external mechanism, or the selector not returning cleanly due to a tired spring (2 & 5 here) .............. https://www.ascycles.com/bmw/2012/K1...tml#PartsTable

I was sure we had another rider with this issue, but I can't find it on search right now.

Original factory tranny, as built in January 2013.

I'm still curious as to why it's just 3rd gear that hangs up, going either up or down.

I occasionally have it slip back into 3rd when shifting to 4th. I have assumed that I am not moving my foot far enough. It seems when I pay attention it doesn't happen

It's not a foot problem.

And it's not failing to engage and slipping out of gear. Rather, it gets stuck in third, and doesn't want to go into the next gear.

Interestingly, even when this happens, I can still shift easily 1-2-3-2-1, or 6-5-4-3-4-5-6. I just can't shift through 3rd...

I have the kit on my 15 GTS (born on date 12/2014), I have no issues at all. In the beginning I had no upshifts but that was determined to be I wasnt retracting the shifter lever far enough to move to the next gear. But you said it is not a shoe thing, I would call the manufacturer of the STK. I called him after install and he straightened my issue out.
I would look back and make sure the spline timing is correct, basically take it all apart again and start over from scratch. If youre convinced everything is correct, I would put the OEM back on and see if its still there. If so, its not the shifter. Good Luck
