New York is a pretty big state. What part of New York are you moving to? I can't speak for anyone else but the NY Metro area has a few riders who are members of the forum who may reach out to you. I'm just a few minutes from Manhattan, where the worlds best riding roads are found (cough cough). If riding in the city the best advise is to avoid the highways, primary and secondary streets. Which is mostly every road. I only ride in NYC so I can get out and do some real riding. Seriously if you're moving to Buffalo there isn't much I can help with. As a general observation NYC is NOT a motorcycle friendly town, with some of the past stupidity from immature riders making the news in the past few years, many people are not fans. This is one place where keeping the mentality of riding while thinking that you're invisible is very useful.

There are several clubs in the NYC area that might be of interest for you including. (oldest motorcycle club in the world)

There are others, but at this time of the morning on a Sunday, it's the best I can come up with.

I am not a member of any of these organizations, but their reputations are good.
If you're going to be around here I can give you my opinion of the local dealers in terms of service. Dealers to go to and other's that I won't for service.

Best of luck and welcome to the NYC area if that's where you're going to.

Entropy isn't what it used to be.

I hope you like high taxes, tolls and liberal politics. Left there 12 years ago and never looked back. (Well, maybe for some good Chinese takeout)
