Using oil way to much

Hi,

I had my oil light come on a couple of days ago and went to the dealer and he topped it off. Yesterday I rode from San Francisco to Laughlin and the oil is very low again. I have no leaks since under the bike it is always clean. Any ideas what is going on??

And before you all say it, yes I should check my oil more often.

Thanks for the input.

Did the light come on a second time or did you check it and found it low? If you look at your tailpipe is one side blacker than the other?

The checking of oil on the K1600 is a bit complicated. Some where on the forum you will find ways to check the oil level.

It only came on once and the center pipe is darker.

The center pipe is supposed to be darker. They look fine. Only check the oil after you have ridden awhile. Turn the bike off, put it on the center stand and after one full minute from when you turned the bike off check the oil. That is the only way to check the oil. Any other way will give you a false reading. By the way when the oil light comes on you should be only 1/2 quart low. Not a big deal.

Thank you for the feedback.

So I should have a major concern then?

Nope. Just keep an eye on it for awhile. My first GT used 1/2 quart every 5k. My second used very little.
