Disconnect Battery Briefly

I want to put the pigtail connector to my battery on my 2016 KGT so I can plug it into my battery tender. Will disconnecting the battery cause any issue like clearing settings or other issues?

You'll loose your programmed radio stations and your check maintenance due light will come on until the bike's internal clock resets. Otherwise, you're good to go.

Probably not recommended, but I gingerly maintained the battery connection and slide my tale connectors on top of the post, maintaining power to the bike avoiding the issues mentioned. All went well with no lights or re-sets etc.

I would advise to disable the alarm before you disconnect the battery. Ask me how I know, when my key was up 3 floors in my nightstand. And yes it is loud when you are that close to it when it goes off.

Done, I made the effort to disconnect carefully so contact was maintained to the battery while I connected the pigtail. Thanks for the help.

Radio stations are not lost when you disconnect the battery. At least not on 18's.

I've had my GT's battery sitting on my work bench in my house to get it out of the cold weather since November. I plug in a maintenance charger monthly. This has been my winterization practice on all my bikes for the past 40 years.

I sure hope everything still works come May when hopefully the snow melts!

I've never had an issue disconnecting the battery on my 2012 or 2016 GTL bikes which I did several times while connecting "stuff" and once to install a new battery. I don't remember loosing anything but then I can't remember what I had for breakfast today.
