Historical code storing time
Need the collective wisdom of the group please:
My bike showed a few instances of shift assist failures a few thousand kilometers ago which miraculously never came back. Off to the 20.000 km service at my new to me dealer with the request to check the shift assist. They charged me for the analysis of the problem initially because they could not find a historical code and at the time of the service the SA worked flawlessly. They went through a new diagnostic procedure (shown to me) from BMW as it seems this problem is not an isolated one. One item was the inspection and the cleaning of the connection to the ECM.........which was performed to be on the safe side.
Anyway, does anybody know the lifetime of historical codes stored in the ECM?
Would disconnecting the battery for a few days erase the codes?
