Hey man...if your route to Greenville takes you through Mpls, you're welcome to crash here and get a good sleep, do bike maintenance (tool chest in much better shape!) and a good meal or two (might beat McDonalds) then we'll send you on your way for the 2nd half of the run. The offer applies going out and on your way back.

    Howdy Ken!

Is there a thread where you have info on your rally cockpit setup? Trying to decide on a shelf or a gaggle or RAM stuff?

Thanks for all the great info you share!

Hey Ken! Hope all is well with you. Have a question. Doing a Colorado ride mid-September and not sure if my Helite mesh jacket with liner will handle some of the temperature changes...probably brisk in the a.m. and 70's later in day. Wondering about your experience with the Adventure jacket you wore on the rally. I know you must've seen some serious temperature changes and wonder how hot the jacket can be at mid-70's. I'm sure it'll be fine when the temps are cooler...I just hate sweating my ass off! I would need to order in next few days if I go with the Adventure. I would not want the vest. Thanks, man!

You have me convinced to buy a Helite, buddy. Just got shoulder surgery...snipped and re-attached a tendon. Should make biking life a bit more comfortable!! Hope all is well for you and wife!!

Hey Ken...just saw the stats for hitting a deer in Wisconsin. 1 out of 72 smack one. That ranks number 5 in the U.S! Hope all is well there!

The last couple of days they have been showing videos of my old unit with people i recognize many of whom left their lives there, **** I actually saw my self. Almost 50 years and I can still smell the cordite, the sulfur, blood and the sickening stench of death everywhere, the shaking rumble and painful concusion from 500lb bombs dropped for B52s detonating 500 yards away. incoming 122mm rockets that sound like low flying jets when they come screaming in. I went in there weighing 170 after just over 3 months I weight less than 130. Sorry for the rant, but you sound like as sensible person not an armchair phony, flashbacks are strong for the USMC birthday Nov 10. 49 ears and I can still see and hear it as plain as it was an hour ago.

It is obvious that this Limke clown has never served in the military. I would wager that he used student deferments to avoid the draft during Viet Nam. He claims he still has his draft card? I for one never had a draft card. In fact when I went to register they were curious why I did not sign up close to my 18th birthday, until they realized I was actually in USMC bootcamp on my 18th Birthday and on an Operation called Meade River on my 19th Birthday. I would go so far as to say Limke was at the La Airport in May of 1969 when I came back to the U.S. for the second time from Viet Nam, what hap end that day can be researched in both the LA Times and the New York Times. Limke is one of those people I hope I never have the misfortune to meet in person. This site seems to be one of those places where 5 or 6 people run it for their own self gratification.

    Hi Ken,

You obviously know your stuf when it comes to long distance riding, so I'd like to ask your opinion about seats/back rests. I have a GTL with a stock seat and it sucks. I've been limping along with an Airhawk that I used to use on my Harley Ultra Limited--until I sold the bike. I also have a Backup backrest designed for the GTL. I've decided to buy another seat, but I'm still undecided on which one to get. My first concern is leather vs vinyl. I'm thinking the leather would be better in hot weather, but vinyl would be better in inclement weather. Also, I'm not sure if I need a backrest or not. Seems to me that if proper riding posture is used, a backrest really won't help that much in fighting fatigue on a long riding day. When you have a minute, I'd appreciate your thoughts on leather vs vinyl and the ads/disadvantages of using a backrest or not when doing long distant riding. Thanks, Ron

Hi meese, ran across a picture of your bike when researching removing my mirrors and going with bar end mirrors or something to reduce width of bike (bagless) I was wondering where you got the adapter plates for those lights in mirror position. thanks
