I ran 190/50 for about 4000 miles with no ill effects. I ordered the wrong size didn't want to send it back. Yes the Speedo is off but just use the GPS. Just my .02
A lot of C14 riders, myself included, switch out their 190/50 rear to a 190/55 for better handling. Ninja 1000's too. Not too many purposely go the other way, other than maybe for those inseam challenged wanting a bit lower seat height.
The slightly lower rear ride height means your front rake will be a fraction less steep and the trail a bit longer. That combined with the 50 series profile means your turn-in might be a tiny bit slower, but you probably won't notice it.
I've run several 190/50 tires on my bike and could never tell the difference. As far as the speedometer goes it is not very accurate even with the 190/55 tire so you won't know if that's off or not. As mentioned just read your speed on the GPS.
As an aside once, when my tire went south while on a trip, the only tire I could find was a 180/50 and the traction control (DTC) didn't pick up on the difference and it worked fine also.
A dealer did that once to me but never told me. That's when I started doing the tire changes myself. I've saved quite a lot of money getting the tires online and free install now that I have the equipment.
This shows the typical difference in profile of the 3 most popular sizes, although some tire models can vary quite a bit. Previous owner of the Trophy SE I owned put on a Shinko Raven 190/50R17 rear tire, which was extremely "flat" compared to other 190/50's. Handled okay, but the turn-in was definitely not as quick.
My personal concern would be the Load index rating of the smaller size tire(s)!
