Lightbulb Riders Roost Campground, Ferguson, NC

Wife out of town, I'm heading to Riders Roost in the morning for 3 nights. I've not ridden the area or been to this campground before. Anyone familiar with either please chime in.

Never stayed there. North of where you will be staying is the Back of the Dragon on VA16 between Marion & Tazwell; https://www.virginia.org/listings/Ou...ckoftheDragon/ . Also, consider 58 into Damascus and over to the TN421 or the Snake (https://www.thesnake421.com ). Remember, radar detectors are illegal in VA. Best,

@garyculb , I'm familiar with both your recommendations and have ridden them many times. I'll be fairly close to Boone, etc. and haven't ridden around there at all.

There are some great roads between Boone & Ashville, NC. The area is actually one of my favorite places to ride & stay. Consider NC 194 to Roan Mountain area (Murder Mountain Run). We call NC 80 the Devils whip (North Carolina's Route 80 (AKA Devil's Whip) in North Carolina | North Carolina Motorcycle Roads and Rides | MotorcycleRoads.com ). Or consider a trip Down & Up the Spiral Staircase on NC 182. You can get over there via the BRPW or NC221. Oh, and don't forget to do the Diamondback (https://diamondback226.com). It is right outside where we normally stay: Skyline Inn & Tavern (https://www.skylinevillageinn.com). Tell the owner Michael Thrift that Doc sent you. Might get you a free draft??

Consider giving qbird66 a PM. He has many great gpx files of this area. Wish I could get off from work to join you. Best,

Doc

+1 on NC80. Was expecting a country stroll and is a blast!

Not to say the rest arenít great.

Avoid beach mtn rd. Road surface was terrible in May.
