Just did 3 passes of US-191 this past weekend.
Since I was there in August, the mine has re-routed the road from the western ridge of the mine to down into the mine itself. Beautiful new pavement with nice sweeping corners. However, zoned for 25MPH and lots of mine workers looking on. So probably not a good idea to take full advantage of that new pavement.
One downside, is the mine vista overlook is now gone. The one with the monstrous mine truck wheel and tire. So, no pictures with big wheel and no magnificent view of the mine and the goings on. Bummer for you guys who haven't been here before.
The pavement between the northern end of the mine and mile marker 181 is still disintegrating and leaving little piles of pea gravel. Not a lot, but keep you eyes open on this section. Rest of the road in excellent shape. Some fall color starting on the aspen trees.
30 degrees in the morning in Alpine. Had problems starting my bike, but that's another thread.
