Anyone riding out of east side of Phoenix?

Thinking about leaving Friday morning 9-ish from Apache Junction, thru Safford, then stop for lunch at recently opened Daley Diner in Clifton. Then a leisurely (yea right) run up the Devil's Highway.

60's during the day. Alpine is in a valley, so the cold air settles there in the morning.

It is always best to loop NM first. US-191 is much more fun south->north than north->south.

It looks like everyone it itching to get going. I called the Mountain Hi Lodge and they said we have around 9 rooms reserved for Friday/Saturday night so with some double occupancies we should have a nice group. Check in is at their other motel in the area called Tal-Wi-Wi between 3-5pm. If you arrive sooner and want to see if your room is ready you will need to call 928-339-4311. This info is on your confirmation letter.
Tal-Wi-Wi is located at 40CR 2220 Alpine.

I also called the Bear Wallow Café in Alpine and gave them a heads up that our crowd will be having breakfast and dinner there on Saturday and they said no problem, they don't take reservations.

As Brian has mentioned in his posts it will be chilly/cold in the morning but if we run the loop in a clockwise direction (New Mexico first) it should be OK. I for one will be suited up with a heated jacket liner and gloves so I suggest everyone be prepared for cool temperatures.

Attached is a pdf of the Saturday loop. I tried posting a gpx file but it's an invalid file to post. It with this map you should be able to put the route in your GPS. The ride time is 6 1/4 hours and 211 miles. As I mentioned in an earlier post I think it would work better if we break up into smaller groups to ride the loop. I'm working on something for a mid loop lunch or snack break. More on that soon.

Please post any questions you might have or call me at Nine Two Eight -710- six zero 88

Departing this afternoon (Thurs 10/10). Looks like decent weather through the desert. I'll stop tonight somewhere between Blythe and Phoenix. See you tomorrow.
Safe travels to all.
