I’m interested in this ride as well. The caveat is my buddy and I planned a ride to Tombstone that same weekend already. However, he had to go in for back surgery recently and is struggling with that recovery so the Tombstone ride may not happen. If it doesn’t , I’m definitely in - got time off scheduled from work already. I’ll continue to check in.
Darby, regardless of whether I wind up joining this ride or head to Tombstone, I’m in Albuquerque and if that’s a good mid-point for you on your way from and back to Colorado you are welcome at my house.

I'm trying to figure this ride out and have a couple of ideas. The weekend is October 11,12,13.

1) Friday night Show Low, Saturday ride to Silver City via 666 which is a 6 3/4 hour ride time, spend the night in Silver City, scatter for home or what ever on Sunday.

2) Friday night Show Low, Saturday do a long loop down the 666 over to New Mexico on 78 and back up on 180 arriving back in Show Low for the night. 8 1/2 hours ride time. Sunday scatter.

The advantage of #2 is the fun ride day would be with unloaded motorcycles as you would be staying in the same motel 2 nights in a row.

3) Some folks picking #1 and others #2 depending on where they need to go on Sunday.

I want this to be a relaxed fun weekend so there won't be an organized parade type ride on Saturday. Everyone can buddy up and leave when you want and ride at your own pace.

As an aside Arizona Bill has volunteered to ride most or all of this in the next couple weeks to scout out the road and actual ride times.

What say you folks that have marked this on your calendars?

Two nights in the same place is convenient.

It might also be easier to book a large group for multiple nights at the same place. Looks like there's a decent selection of hotels in Show Low.

What would be cool is if we could find a place that's out of the way of sorts and had areas we all could gather in. Kinda like a IHML in the Show Low area.

Jim, two nights in the same place, sounds good to me. Sunday split back in Show Low, may be shorter trek home for most. About the same either way for me.

Jim, I'd be in favor of the #2 plan. However, my $0.02 would be to stay in Springerville or Alpine vs. Show Low. Getting hotels in Alpine can be difficult without a lot of advance notice. I've stayed in Sportsman's Lodge and Tal-Wi-Wi and both are good. I usually stay at the Best Western in Springerville (actually in Eager), also a good place. Again, early notice necessary.

Staying at Springerville or Alpine takes about 1.5-2 hours off of a loop on Saturday.

BTW, while we're in the neighborhood, be sure to ride FS-249 from Alpine to Big Lake, then AZ-261 from Big Lake to Springerville. Some exceptionally tasty tarmac that most folks don't know about.

Both Sportsman's and Tal-Wi-Wi in Alpine fill that bill. Hotels in Springerville and Show Low, not so much.

Thanks everyone who has chimed in so far. AZ Bill and I already talked about those alternate routes that Brian (bbolesaz) mentioned. I'll check out those closer motels.

I would like to get a head count on how many riders are definitely planning on coming so that I can use that number when contacting the motels. So even if you've already responded could you please do it again with the number of riders in your group. I'll fudge that a little knowing some may drop out and some may decide at the last minute to join us. Thanks
