Does anyone have any updates on the 1600b and G.A. wobble? I want one of these but am afraid I'll get a defected one.

I doubt BMW is making any aerodynamic changes to the B/GA models. Whatever they are today is what they'll be tomorrow. Do your research and make your best guess if it's right for you.

It is in its character to not get along with dirty air it’s not about a defect

From my understanding the GA is the culprit. The bike doesn't track straight when it gets into bad air. It doesn't feel as planted and the front end gets a little light. But it's not a wobble like the handle bar is going back and forth in your hand.

I do understand the apprehension. However, I wouldn't be scared to get a B for that issue. It's mainly an issue with the GA.
I experienced this instability on my B for the first time yesterday. I didn't feel it was that alarming. Just seemed like a little head shaking (if that makes any sense)? A little more noticeable than my old Electra Glide but nothing I found concerning. Just rode it out and didn't try to fight it.
127 mph on mine last night, no more movement then my FJR at that speed..FWIW.

I've had a harley for past 20 yr and was considering a indian challenger/pursuit but they end up being more expensive then the bmw 1600b/ga. Plus bmw has a 3 yr warranty but I thing the Beemer is higher maintenance.
Not informed enough to say yes or no on higher maintenance? I'm thinking a couple of differences are changing the oil on the final drive and the valve lash check(s)? Tires, brakes and engine oil are part of the joy of owning anything capable of highway speeds.

The B does it as well the top case on a GA ads to the problem but a B is the same bike in every other way. It’s a combination of things that lead to it there are things to do to help it track better

Bnash,

For the record, my 2019 HD Street Glide Special cost me $494 for its initial (1000 mile) service. My 2022 K1600B initial (600 miles) service cost $375. Have not compared spark plugs, air filters, valve check, etc. Just FYI.

Semper Fi

PS - Regarding initial purchase price. The HD was $1000 less (but dealer discounted it $2000...last week of the last month of their fiscal year in 2019 and every dealer had a black Special). BMW only a $500 discount...brand new model...inventory was thin...practically zero...tough to get. Please don't get me started on all the aftermarket stuff I added to the HD, e.g., LED lights, seat, shocks, etc.
I was very apprehensive when I bought my 2020 B due to this issue. I voiced my concern to the dealer and they let me take a long test ride on a demo they had. It was an extremely windy day and I did get blown around a bit on the highway but never experienced this so called wobble. I previously owned a Goldwing and I will say the B is not as planted on the highway but the B cruises well at 80 mph and tracks straight. Wind protection is not as good as the Goldwing but an aftermarket windshield helps a lot. I can’t understand why people want these big V-twins that rumble along when for the same money you can get a smooth and fast liquid cooled 6 cyl. Not to mention the superb handling capability of the K bikes.

There are a lot of GA owners on this forum and frankly I haven’t heard of many unhappy owners. Hopefully some of them will chime in with some advice.

I've got a 2018 GA and don't have any qualms about the "wobble". It does move around some in really high winds and dirty air but I just let the bike move around some. I learned a long time ago not to have a death grip on the handlebars and try to fight it so hard. Sure it moves around some under those conditions but I know that and am good with it. I also try to keep out of the dirty air by rapidly passing 18-wheelers. Additionally I don't personally care if it is only rated at 100-110mph or so since I know there is a safety/fudge factor programmed into determing that number and I don't routinely ride over that speed here in the Northeast. Perhaps the movement isn't as bad for me since I am always 2-up on my GA. I have done 100mph on my GA without any problem and if I want to go well over 100mph I am fortunate to have other bikes for doing that. YMMV...

I have done 45,000 klms on my 2018 GA and never felt I purchased the wrong bike. With my wife as pillion we test rode many different bikes before buying the GA, she loved the comfort and we do the majority of our riding with the top case rack loaded, the tent on a rack under the top box, panniers loaded up and panier racks loaded up as well as a tank bag and whatever else the wife cam jam in the top case. It does get light in the front when approaching large trucks but I just hang back out of the vortex until it is safe to pass. Don't let the small amount of time you may have the front end wander put you off this fantastic bike Bnash. 👍

Wobble being used is an inaccurate statement! Heavy side winds bike can move left or right. It’s like a sale, no where for air to get through, HD fat boys with solid rims had same problem, nothing to get worried about, bike isn’t going anywhere, light grip and ride it like you stole it! I sold my 2020 B, went back to dinosaur! Lol, I was going to get hurt on the B, just too fast for this old guy.

My 2019 GA definitely liked to dance at highway speeds and did the jitter bug in dirty air. I never felt it was dangerous once I realized what it was and learned to expect it. It’s just not as planted in certain conditions as some other bikes might be. But it’s a blast in the twisties compared to other touring bikes. It just depends what’s important to you.

Here's my 2 cents and personal experience after owning my 2018 Grand America for 4 years and over 25K miles. There is NO wobble problem on these bikes, but yes they are a bit sensitive to heavy wind turbulence at highway speeds, but NEVER unstable at those speeds. I found my bike to be less sensitive after switching from the OEM Bridgestone's to Michelins, and even more stable after switching to Dunlop Roadsmart IV's. Having said that, I believe that suspension setup is important for high speed riding, especially on windy days. The GA especially has a lot of mass with a large windshield for the wind to grab onto, so suspension setup is important. I ride my GA in ROAD mode most of the time, with my preload set to Rider & Luggage. On extremely windy days, I'll increase the suspension dampening by switching over to Dynamic ride mode. Yes, Dynamic mode is not just for throttle inputs, it also increases the suspension dampening. The increased dampening helps settle the bike in heavy turbulence as it provides a stiffer ride. With good tires, and proper suspension settings, you should be able to ride either the K1600B or GA anywhere at any safe speed without issue......at least that's been my experience. BTW, I would buy a new GA in a heartbeat, but I can't quite get past the smartphone / cradle setup for navigation. I personally think the design is short sighted for many reasons, but if I want to stay with the K1600 platform, I may have to reconsider at some point.

What kind of sound system you got in the back of that thing? lol
Stock sound system on both bikes…
I have a 2020 GA and I agree with other posts, wobble is wrong word to use. More like a twitch when I first got it, I swapped tires to Michelin PS6 and 7Jrock windshield to take some the air off the pack (little wider) and have gotten rid of 90% of what it had off the floor new. I’ve owned HD touring bikes, Hertiage softail, and put well over 100k on Harleys. Wouldn’t trade my GA and go back for anything, smile everytime I ride it.
