I have owned a 1971 kawasaki H1 500 for over 20 years. Time to move on. I am hoping to finance the purchase of a used K1600 with the sale of that bike and another. I really like the looks of the k1600 bikes. I need to learn everything about it and so, this is my first stop on that road. I'm hoping to have $10000 or $11000 to spend on the bike. This is going to be my guide in what I can get. The thing we all like to know when buying used is what are common faults to beware of that can be costly.
I am not set on a particular year but price will govern the newest model I could afford. So this is a call out for advice, help, direction to look for great info. Thanks in advance .

A search will bring up several simular questions and lots of answers. Might be the place to go to first. Just an FYI, my 2012 K1600GTL is riding better today than she did new. Very few things needed to be repaired and were covered by the warranty. BMW hit a homerun with this bike and as I prefer the older ones for their simplicity, that would be my choice. My bike with about 50 K is as sweet as ever..

Thanks man, I did a search today to see what the market looked like and saw a 2012 with I think 22k asking a reduced $11500. Seemed like an almost too good to be true but with my limited knowledge at this point I wouldn't really know. There's always that worry about the unknown to, me bad something or other,
on that particular model and that's why it's cheap. Bought a jeep like that once. I know I am in the right place to find that all out. Thanks I am encouraged.

What Dan said, but double the mileage on my '12 GTL. Best long distance touring bike I've ever owned. Now that she's broken in, I've even decided to invest in some farkles! The velvety smooth -6- is what dreams are made of, and I pinch myself every long trip I take.

Hi my Friend Welcome to the forum, There are many reviews on u tube to look at. For me I have been on Goldwings for the last 15 years thought there was no better bike out there. The regular 1600 were always too tall for me. I ride with the Southern Cruisers Plam Bch Fl a lot of them ride Beemers and they informed about the 1600 B. Called my local dealer and they had one in stock, just got done with all the updates and I could do a test ride that same day. What I mistake I just couldn't believe the ride, had to have it much lighter then the wing went back got a great trade on my wing. I have been on this bike for 3 weeks now and just love. Did some updates new 7Jurock wind Sheild some ILIUM WORKS side panel cover, kick stand adapter and most of all a new Corbin seat with the Extra storage box. So go for it, to me there's no better ride. Good Luck my friend.

Not to steal the thread, but I just ordered a 7Jurock shield and was wondering how you like it. Good wind protection? Your thoughts?

I came to this forum to research my used K1600 GTL purchase 18 months ago. There is so much knowledge here. I would recommend that you spend a weekend searching and reading. Some cost considerations: Valve clearance inspection, coolant leak, coil packs. Coming from an H1 500 and not knowing what else you own, I would read about low speed handling as this is a heavy bike. Good luck with your search!

WOw Thank you all for welcome responses ! I may have found one I like very much. here is the Link

Almost same color as my H1 500.
After a few back and forths getting some info I get " All recalls are done and the tires are in great shape." So I did ask for and did get the VIN thinking I could get a service history. Have yet to try that.
I am nervous for many reasons but mainly its 650 miles from me so I'd be riding it home. What a crusher if something stranded me in the middle of nowhere. So I am trying to not be too impulsive.
I have never bought a used vehicle from a dealer especially out of state. Any idea what to expect as far as registering and taxes. Am I going to pay their state taxes and registering fees ?
I recently went to used car dealer for my son and right away they started a credit report on him without asking and put all kinds of BS fees on top of the price.
$1500 destination charge on $10000 used car. uh, NO! So I'd rather go in to a dealer with some knowledge.
I am so ready to be K1600 member with an actual bike LOL. Thanks

Thanks man. Its good to hear the positive. Its all too easy to expect the worst in things. All too often when doing research the stories of WOE always ring louder. I am definitely feeling the love of the Kbikes here though.

Well....you are not the original poster. My opinion was tailored to him and not you.
Thanks man, after a bit of looking around I may have adjusted my price range a bit, don't tell my wife.:) But knowing about options I may not even think about is good. When theres a budget all the things become wants or needs. Its a balancing act. Do I get all those awesome upgrades or pay next months mortgage LOL. I do like to hear about them though. Knowing about about the quickshifter and hearing how much someone LOVES it is cool info.

Hello Tim, welcome from the middle of a MidWest corn field. If yor wife rides beauch with you she will like the top box on the blue one. It has alot of room for her sht. It is easily removable for those solo rides.

I just recently did what your in the process of doing. I am in AZ and found then bought an 2018 Bagger from Colorado. My is black and had 42k on it. Maintenance records and the dealer I bought from also made it current with service. I had it shipped approx. 900 miles and cost was about 500. My cost was 13,500 the added the Garmin for 0 cost to me. I was and still am pleased with my purchase. I feel the asking price is high considering what I got for 500 more. It does have all the options,
