Fender extenders

Hi, newly acquired 2016 GT - doing a deep-dive on farkles.
I heard a fender extender may help keep the radiator cleaner resulting in cooler running engine? Hope this is true.
Found a carbon fiber fender extender for $37. on eBay - sounds to good to be true?
Has anyone had success with this one or any others for that matter? Thank you to all.

I have used this vendors extender on both of my K1600's. It's a good product.

If you want something that's comparatively expensive and over engineered try the Wunderlich front fender extender.

CF looks nice. I may try one. Didn't want to spend $$ on Wunderlich. My original Fenda Extenda version has a piece broken off, so not getting full width of protection.

FYI: I've had the Wunderlich Fender Extender for 8 years, it's solid and I forget about it except when I have something to do with the front tire or brakes.
But it is pricey.

I took a chance on the Carbon Fiber extender you are looking at, and found it to be a nice product that fit well and looks good on the bike. Absolutely recommend.

How does it mount? I see no holes. Adhesive or drill holes for mounting?

Tim
If I remember, it uses double sided tape to hold it in position. Then 2-4 self tapping screws to secure it home.

The instructions indicate use of an adhesive product. I used Gorilla Glue extra strength adhesive. No issues to this point.

Ok, so the allure of a carbon fiber fender extender (one third the price of Wunderlich extender) with questionable attachments won and has been ordered. I'll post my install experiences once the product arrives and is installed.
Thank you all for participating with your comments.

Howdy @Robofavo . Just wondering how you like the carbon fiber fender extender that you ordered. I just noticed that my original Fenda Extenda has become somewhat chewed up on the end from road debris and was going to order the same one you did. I'm also wondering how you secured yours; both adhesive and screws or just adhesive? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Spudman, I like my new Carbon Fiber Fender Extender a lot! It shipped all the way from Spain, of all places. It's a beautiful piece of carbon fiber art and as light as a feather! I have no idea how they make & sell them for cheap! It's a shame they are so low on the bike, but it's quite long which is nice to prevent road grime in the radiator. I researched quite a bit on what to use to attach it, Epoxy, Super glue & heavy duty foam tape seemed to be the best choices. I purchased 3M's Extreme double sided mounting tape which seemed the easiest to manage vs. liquid glues (see images) First I completely removed the fender from the bike and cleaned it thoroughly. I mounted the extender with the fender still off the bike which made the process much easier. Next I completely filled the back of the extender with foam tape and crushed it onto the K-bikes fender. I reinstalled the fender with it's extender, then the next day rode off to Chicago to see a friend for the weekend, about a 800 mile round trip. It's still on the bike so the double sided tape worked!

Thanks for the great response, @Robofavo ! I'm glad it met your expectations. I too wondered how they could sell and ship it for only $37 all the way from Spain! I only have one
concern about ordering it though. As you can see by looking at the attached photo, this is what my Fenda Extenda from Pyramid Plastics looks like after 10 years and 24,000 miles. I honestly never even knew it was in this kind of shape until I pulled the fender and front wheel this week to do a tire change and brake pad replacement. The reason for my concern is that I don't know what caused this. I can't imagine just pebbles and other road debris would have chewed it up like this...and I have seen posts here about people saying that the Fenda Extenda rubs on their tire. For the life of me, I don't see how that can happen, but now I'm worried that if in fact that IS the cause....carbon fiber is much more likely to shard and slice into the tire than plain old plastic would. I'm wondering if anyone else here might have photos of their extenders after they've been on for several thousand miles to see if this is a common occurrence or not.

I purchased a CF one as well to replace my old fenda extenda. It had taken some wear and was missing a small chunk. It had rubbed the center of the front tire as evidenced in the pic from the underside. I used a two sided gorilla tape and two short aluminum rivets to attach the CF extender. At then I caulked the underside lap to keep the water a debris from getting between the two pieces. Bc when I removed the old extension the space was packed with very fine road sand etc.

It's amazing the fender extender can take so much abuse... the the extender than let all that debris make it's way to the radiator. Thanks for sharing. It will be interesting to see how well the carbon fiber extenders hold up.

Meant to write: Better the extender takes all that abuse and not the radiator.
