Fender Extension

I keep reading about people having fender extensions for the their GTLs. I went to Wunderlich web site and find the fender extension, they say to check fitment. I put my 2018 GTL in and their web site says it won't fit???

Did BMW change the fender? Is there a different manufacturer who makes a fender extension?

What are you all using for your fender extension?

I have the same Wunderlich fender extender on my 2018 B. Not sure what would be different about the GTL fender. The last fitment year listed for the GTL on their website shows 2016.

Hi Joe, I have one on my GTL and they do fit, it is easy to take the front fender off to make sure you drill the holes for the screws but make sure if you chose to use the L bracket included you line it up before taking off your fender. Mine took about 15 mins to do all up. It is the only thing I have not taken a photo of and not having my bike back yet I cant take one to show you. cheers

Thanks @Geoff_3 I now understand why everyone is using the fender extensions. I did a little cleaning of the plastic shield in front of the radiator. I had all kinds of road gravels, debris, and garbage behind the shield.
The extension will make a world of difference.

I've always considered all of my bike as a canvas for me to do with as I want. I'm not so sure I would want to buy the PERFECT motorcycle.

I still like to think of motorcycling as not a main stream activity, so if I need to correct something I see as a issue, so be it.

I agree 100% the same would go with the car. trucks and so on. I can't see anything as being perfect, then you have everyone's perspective on that as well. We are all different thank god or it would be a boring old world.

If you do buy the Wunderlich unit Joe, here are 2 pics to help understand the placement of the support bracket. The instructions are very vague. Remove the bolt holding the brake line and install the bracket between the brake line and mounting point. Leave is loose and pull it down against the fender. Snug it up and mark the holes in the fender for drilling.

Hope this helps.

@mlheck it helps immensely! I had looked at the install directions and they were clear as mud!! Thanks for the photos. Once I hear back from Wunderlich, I'll be ordering one!

I've bought many carbon fiber fender extenders from the same ebay seller Bluebird Engineering out of Spain. They all fitted well and are stiff and very light weight. I glued mine on with Gorilla polyurethane. $35 shipped to my door.

The Wunderlich, beside being way too expensive, adds weight and bulk to a fender that is already rather long and wobbly.

And yes, taking off the fender is way easier. I prefer to scuff sand the underside where the extender glues to, so the fender off and loose makes the washing, gluing and clamping much easier.

BMW K1600GT K1600GTL Fender Extender found their site myself after much searching as it sounded interesting. can anyone confirm if the k1600b fender is the same as the get/gtl?
I tried to order one for my bike and their site locks when you try to pay even with PayPal as well so they may not be in business any longer.

I too just finished putting on the rear Extended fender from Wunderlich and a Oil Cooler guard. The oil cooler guard was super easy and the Fender extension was a little more detailed with the L bracket which I too wonder why it’s needed as the fender is sturdy enough. But I went through that marking and drilling process just to ensure that added support is there. It’ll definitely keep the bottom of the radiator cleaner from road slop. Looks good too.

I llium Works are great Quality and look as if they are BMW some parts in lots of cases I prefer that over the Wunderlich brands but that is just my preference after having problems with Wunderlich not fitting correctly back in 2017 the rear luggage protection bars ended up having the lid of the side cases hitting on the bars along with passenger calf rubbing against them the front engine bars rubbed against the plastic and after they replaced them 3 times with the back and forth to the USA I gave up on them. Since then I prefer the Ilium Works gear to has a great finish and works every time.

Tough crowd sometimes. Guy’s been on here 2 months, 40 some posts, and we bust balls. He’s a big boy and can handle it, I’m sure. Looks like several new members here. Hope you all feel welcome.

Dude, When someone doubts me I don’t go out of my way to prove my word. I make them look a bit harder to see the truth. Besides nice clear photos were previously shown to assist and weren’t really needed. I’m researching which rear bag guards I’m going to want and listening concerned about aesthetic and function on my Black Bagger.

I started to buy the larger rear bars but I got to thinking about how my wife's leg might end up against the taller bar so I went with the shorter Ilium Works bars also the PO had already installed their engine bars. On a black bike I would go with black bars so they blend in and are not as noticeable that is why I went with black since the bottom of my bags are black.

Nothing personal about the pics, just a pet peeve with me why should anyone have to click on pics to view then click again to go back to the thread? Most forums are much easier to post pics on now that you don't have to use a hosting service anymore. Some forums even have rules against posting pics as thumbnails.
