I received two smallish items that will make a big impact.
If you read my ride report from April ‘22 CC50/SS4000, you might recall that my heated gear/light controller went out on me. I was using a Denali CanSmart (re-badged Hex ezCan) to run my D7 lights and my Gerbing heated gear. It shot craps at just the wrong time. I about froze my fanny riding though the Rockies with snow all around. And the lights wouldn’t work when I was driving through the deserts or rain storms of the SW US. Disappointing to say the least. But just a part of the ride memories now.
A couple folks, like @Arizona Jim, suggested hard wiring directly to the battery. It would be only high heat but better than no heat. I didn’t have the time or parts to do it on the side of the highway and time was precious to me.
But the suggestion stuck with me. I was about to wire a solid Gerbing female coax connection to the battery. But I didn’t have a spare female lying around. So I got online and was going to possibly have to cannibalize a connector. I didn’t really want to do that but didn’t know I had options. I already have an SAE pigtail connected to the battery for the air compressor and battery tender. And I have a waterproof USB connector to install forthe new GoPro. I considered getting a fused power box.
BUT! By chance I found a Gerbing SAE to female coax patch cable. I can carry it in the topbox And never have to worry about not having heated gear again. PLUS, if the wife wants heated gear, I can use it while she rides with the addition of a controller. Sweet!
And, I just converted to a Quad Lock wireless charger with the shock absorption. It’s fairly deep or tall in size. I have been using the Wunderlich handle bar adapter bolt. It’s been great for the phone holders I’ve used. But a new iPhone means I need to protect it more from vibration, hence the QL. Well, it almost interferes with the gas cap. It doesn’t, but it’s tight.
Soooo, I ordered the roundel ram ball from @Arizona Jim. Both parts arrived today. I’ll get them on this weekend. It will push the phone closer to the dash yielding plenty of room at the gas cap. I may end up using the adapter bolt for the GoPro up front instead of the windshield mount, or maybe even a radar detector if I ever go that route.
Two relatively small items that are giving me good feels at the moment. And Jim, you might need to raise your prices. Just sayin.
