I had purchased the Ram mount with the inductive charging and my experience was less than stellar. If your phone is in a case it may or may not charge. I was using a Samsung S20 and S21. I ended up having to flip the mount upside down to charge consistently. If I was split screening with Waze and JBV1, the charger would fall behind. Mine died at about 18 months after water got into the USB power connection and corroded all the pins.
YMMV

Just to add a bit to this thread a couple of other options I've come across while getting farkles ready for my new bike.

Wireless Ram Charger mount for those of us with bigger new phones that can't use the compartment.

I have an IP 13 Pro and it does not fit in the phone compartment.
I have a iPhone 14 Pro Max and it fits in my 2022 GTL’s cubby. Without a case and using the BMW USB-C to Lightening adapter cable. I was actually surprised it fit, and the cover closes properly.

MY 13 pro in Quad lock case does not fit. Will I take off the case every time I want to put it in, **** no. I have another old phone I may be able to use just for that, a bike phone if you would.

If that does not work I still don't think the cubby is useless, I think it would be a great place to store cocaine. No police would think to look there.

I can safely say that everyone finds an alternative to using the phone caddy. It's the worst design I've ever seen. Not to mention that it's a great place to cook your phone on a hot day. I just brought a USBC cable out to a cockpit bag, but everyone has an elegant solution. Hopefully BMW will adopt one.

Doing same right now as they set up my new bike

Problem with the phones, without talking about the cubby, is the temperature while using as a background app. Had my iphone on a tank bag in summer, I was happy with it, butttt, stoped working due to mobile overheat.
For me an integrated navigation system is a must, not mobile dependant.

I installed a Zumo XT on my 2022 GT so I no longer need to use the iPhone and the cubby hole. I am good. But I find this to be an important step backwards by BMW.
First: I use the slimmest possible case on my iPhone 13 Pro and it won't fit in the cubby with the case on.
Second: the Zumo XT is far superior to the Connected app, but I loose the use of the wonder wheel, and I gain a superior Zumo screen quality and info available via touch screen.

I am still flabbergasted that BMW spent so much time, energy, and my cost, to create a cubby and an app that is far inferior to a Garmin Zumo.

I had the same issue, I just don't zip up the bag on hot days, then no problem

Wireless Ram Charger mount for those of us with bigger new phones that can't use the compartment.

This piqued my interest! So I perused on over to Ram’s website. Appears it doesn’t work with newer iPhones.

Ram website said:
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
iPhone 12, 13 & 14 products support a new and proprietary wireless charging standard not supported in this product.
Here’s the link: RAM® Tough-Charge™ with X-Grip® 10W Waterproof Wireless Charging Holde

So disappointing. I was really excited about this!

EDIT

Looking over the Ram products on Amazon, I might have come across a solution. Ordered. Will let y’all know how it works. Unfortunately, not waterproof like the one at the top that’s not compatible. Guess I’ll be taking my chances.

RAM MOUNTS Quick-Grip Holder with Ball for Apple MagSafe Compatible Phones RAM-HOL-UN15WBU with B Size 1" Ball Amazon.com

OtterBox Wireless Charging Pad for MagSafe - BLACK Amazon.com

EDIT #2

The Ram Mount solution is about $80, since it’s just two additional items to add to my current Ram Mount.

A few of you suggested Quadlock, so I checked out their website. A little over $225 for everything!! And this doesn’t include new desktop and nightstand chargers to accommodate the new quadlock cellphone case.

Decisions…

Does anyone know have diagrams on how to adjust the cubby hole release
For the lower panels? Or the cellphone cubby over the TFT?

If talking about the TFT, I asked my dealer about this last summer.

They said it’s not adjustable. I told them my hatch wouldn’t always pop open. It would pop open slightly, and I had to manually pull on the hatch to open it fully.

They told me that the hatch has a two part release. Pressing the button allows it to meet the first release where it’s barely open, and the second release to fully open happens when the windscreen reaches its fully up position.

I swear I thought it WAS reaching the fully up position. But since that conversation, I stopped using the cubby, so could never fully test this theory.

Hope this is helpful, and good luck on getting yours to operate correctly.

I’ll give it ago but seems like another muck up by BMW

Doesn’t seem to be a lot of room when the screen closes down. The cockpit bag fits okay underneath there?

How is it secured? I see what look like snaps?
Yes the cockpit bag fits nicely under the screen. I also have my traffic tag in there for travelling in Europe and passports when we cross a border. Wunderlich provide quick release system that sticks to the top, they screwed in on the old model.

I've had no problem.
