Not sure if this link will work. Or how long it will last.

this can't possibly be the service manual since there's only 14 pages. It's nice that people post them but i'm still going to have to buy one, this partial stuff is not good. Nothing worse than working with incomplete information.

Yeah my copy was over 500 pages long. I'm wondering, though, if the text in blue font under "Preparatory work" is supposed to be hyperlinked? That's where I need to get--into the part of the manual that tells how to remove the panels over the gas tank and the tank itself. Trying to remove this bloody CB radio and all its cables.

Is this what one gets with the BMW shop manual DVD that only runs on Windoze? Do the hyperlinks work on the DVD? I was thinking about getting one, but what's on the pdf is hardly worth the price of the DVD and hassle of setting up Windoze on my Mac.

Even when these 'free pdf manuals' work they are a real PIA, e.g. try following one task with 6 steps (bouncing back and forth looking through the whole the document to find the steps).

I copied the DVD to the Windows Laptop @Arizona Jim gave me at Darby's. And it runs fine from the hard drive (hyperlinks, etc), e.g. ditched the DVD player.

Thanks for the link

That link is bait! There is malware that will run if you let it. Avoid that link.

@556ALPHA , contact your local BMW Dealer and purchase the Maintenance DVD directly from them.

I removed the link but kept the post.

I downloaded it a month or so back until I got my bmw cd. It loaded up and works fine. The links to other pages doesn’t work so you have to scroll to the page or go back to the menu, but it served me well until I got the cd from the dealer.

Interesting. I’ve been wondering about this download option for the service manual since I only have a IMac, no external DVD drive. If I purchased the DVD would I be able to download it to Parallels on the Mac?? Similar to how I installed the Bren tune using Parallels?

Saw that @Gunnert did that with Windows a while back.

Thanks.

The BMW repair manual disc includes a "Copy_Repair_Manual" Windows application which you use to copy the contents of the disc to a folder of your choosing on your computer or server. After which, you do not need to see the disc again. You need to have used the copy repair manual option if you wish to apply updates to the manuals.

Looks like it.
This is my personal copy K1600 Service Manual.pdf

To be honest with you, you are MUCH better off purchasing a BMW service DVD.

The manual simply lists the “preparatory work”, then shows the “core activity”. But the DVD allows you to click into each step of the preparatory list, and in turn, takes you to a more detailed explanation of each step

Does the DVD show you in Video format what is being done or is it just a list and text ?

And as you might expect, even the official DVD can be improved upon. For example, there is no mention of the radiator drain plug 🤨. That is a major (to me) oversight
