My brother and I decided to take a little leaf peeping ride today over Carson Pass. Wasn’t as much color as I thought there’d be, but a ride over the pass into Jackson for lunch is always a good day.

On the way home, we decided to take a little detour and go from CA 88 onto the Mormon Emigrant Trail and take the Silver Fork Road from there into Kyburz. Then over Echo Summit to his place at Lake Tahoe and I’d continue down to the Carson Valley.

We stopped on a bridge and I learned how the road and the little town got its name. In 43 years of living in this area, I never knew the name came from this being the Silver Fork of the American River.

Those are nice roads for sure. My backyard when we lived in CA.

That spot on the river is loaded with folks swimming in the summer. The wife and I preferred a spot upstream about half a mile. A little more difficult to get to but really nice and secluded.
