Longest ride for me ever tomorrow!

Riding from Scottsdale to Knoxville starting tomorrow. Three days of it all goes well. 1800 mi, having a hard time getting excited about this. But necessary relocating my bike to the Smokies for the best riding on the planet.

Make frequent stops, maybe every 100 miles or 150 miles.

I am a little bit surprised that you are not looking forward to this, the best feature of the K1600 is that it is easier to make long rides than most other bikes.

Good luck. You'll be fine.

I would be beyond excited, that part of the country has some excellent riding. 1800 miles in 3 days is an awesome ride, you'll have a blast. Enjoy
You will be excited after about three hours. The farther away you get the better it gets on so many levels.
Sounds like a boring ride if you plan to ride the interstate the whole way, would be a better ride if you could take secondary roads and checkout a few points of interest along the way.
Enjoy the ride! Weather seems mild and promising across TN where I’m waking up this morning. Will be taking my wife over to ride Cherohala and area on Sat. (Trailered here ystrdy). I love that Knoxville area. Safe travels. It’s a good adventure to go on.

If you are going all Interstate I can see why your not that thrilled. Mix it up bit between secondary roads & the interstate if time permits. Look at it this way….there’s a pot of gold at the end of road. I guess your doing three 600 mile days. That’s nothing for the Big K. Enjoy

I’ve made that trip several times on I-40. I like to do the most miles the first day then a little less the second giving the third day a short hop. 850, 650, 300.

I'd be excited even if it were all interstate. Sometimes it's fun to just gobble up mile after mile!

If I'm reading you right, then it's 600 per day so two tanks per day.

We do stuff like that, but not 3 days in a row, always find interesting places to stop along the way to get us off the highways. Whenever we start off in the morning we set the Nav to avoid motorways but then after a few hours we take the motorway, stop somewhere half way and then the final route we choose depends on our progress so far.

It's all good until the weather breaks.

Enjoy, i envy you.

Here below was a lovely ride we had last year with serious highway avoidance forcing us to go the long way around.

@TouringTim I wish I could get 300miles out of a tank of gas!

300 miles to a tank is theoretically doable. My best so far was 45.67 mpg. That was a very unspirited mellow afternoon of never getting above 60 or 65. Normal riding seems to be mid 30s mpg so far.

And OP...not excited about an 1800 mile ride? Slabbing it the whole way? Smokies are the best riding on the planet?

You sure you picked the right bike?
@Sixgun95 Nick, enjoy the ride! 600 miles is a sane full day of riding. You get to stop occasionally and actually enjoy a meal without staring at your watch. ;)

Got` weathered out in ABQ by 24-35 mi/hr winds, tornadoes east of ABQ and severe thunderstorms. Picking it back up in the morning. Those cross winds were **** today!

Hi John - Hope all is well!
I hope that you are having a super time and are able to stay dry. Lots of rain lately in the SE. If you didn't bring rain-ware, head over to your nearest Walmart. They generally have a good supply and they are inexpensive.
You've got perfect weather here (Knoxville and surrounding area) except Sunday. Other than that going to be perfect!!! Ride safe and maybe I'll pass you on the road... If you have any mechanical issues while here, holler I'll help where I can!
It sounds like an opportunity to make it into a pretty great ride. I have a saying when people are surprised at some of my long distance rides, I tell them "The road is never long enough". Most of the time its not the destination, but usually its all about the journey. If you have time you can make it into a really enjoyable experience.
