Pairing sequence

I bought my bike used and think I'm missing one of the books that addresses pairing, so I'll ask here. Devices to be integrated are:
Smartphone
Sena headset
The K1600
The Nav IV

Can anybody tell me what order to pair the devices in?
Thanks in advance!

nav is connected to bike hardwired no need to pair (unless you need to see the nav show you who is calling) it to phone. I have bike to scala and phone to scala. my music gets softer when nav commands are spoken. The phone button on the scala activates Siri. I find that the headset does a better job of switching between two devices than three.

I have the NAV IV, the Droid Razr smartphone and the LG HBS730 bluetooth headset. In pairing, the NAV IV never saw the droid, but the droid saw the NAV IV but wouldn't connect. So far, using the usb, I'm able to keep my phone charged and listen to iheart, pandora and take calls but I'm missing the NAV IV prompts. Suggestions???

There seems to be a big difference of opinion over whether you pair:

1) phone to NavIV, NavIV to headset, bike to headset, or
2) phone to headset, bike to headset.

Not quite sure how the nav audible messages get to the user in case 2 but I presume that they go through the bike audio? There was mention of "hard-wired" in a previous post but I wasn't completely clear what that referred to.

I only mention these options as reading through the forum, people tend to assume that the way they have set up pairing is "the best" and a reader not knowing about the options might be misled, and especially as the BMW manuals seem to imply method 1 which might cause confusion. Personally, I use method 1 (with a Sena SMH10, latest firmware) but that's because I'm used to operating the phone via the GPS screen - although this was easier on my Pan than on the 1600 as the screen was nearer!

Anyway, I'm having a lot of problems at the moment that I thought might be down to things like the order in which pairing is done. After some experimentation, I have found that it seems to be a Bluetooth problem on my Android phone (Galaxy S2, Android 4.1.2). It pairs with the NavIV with no problem, but as soon as I get or make a call, the audio connection disappears. If I use the phone to switch call settings back to phone rather than headset, then back to headset again, the audio connection is remade and it seems to then work - at least for that call. This seems to be a well-known problem with recent Android releases and on more than just the Galaxy. My question, after all this build-up, is whether anyone else has seen this problem when using an Android phone paired directly to the Sena, and if not, this might be a workaround for me.

And no, swapping to an iPhone is not an option as that comes with its very own set of problems!

And if I'm honest, this isn't really a "1600" problem anyway as the bike isn't involved in any of this. I'm really just canvassing views from SMH10/Android phone users as there seems to be a number of them here.

With my iPhone 5 pairing with the NAV never worked right. The NAV would only respond with "ignore" when a phone call was received. I just paired directly to the helmet now. Call comes in automatically after a couple of rings. David
I pair iPhone 5 to BMW Nav IV (Zumo 660 w/ a few programming changes).

I pair my the bike to my J&M WLS465 Bluetooth wireless helmet headset.

My J&M helmet headset must be on (Bluetooth blue light blinking) before I turn on the K1600 ignition switch.

Works every time !

I have finally had luck with this:
1. reset sena, nav and bike to default
2. Turn off all Bluetooth and sena(s), then,
3. Pair phone with NAV
4. Pair Nav to Sena (using the non-A2DP method)
5. Pair phone with Bike

This works for me (at last). The only problem I have from time to time is that I have to re-pair the sena to the bike which is quick.

I'm not sure that the pairing order is that critical, as long as you delete all pairings on all devices before you start. What you do have to watch is that you pair the navIV to Sena headset using non-A2DP ("phone") pairing, and bike to Sena using A2DP. I made the mistake first time round of using phone pairing for both. Not only did this mean mono and not stereo from the bike audio subsystem, but there seemed to be some kind of interaction between Bluetooth sources and nav instructions were often crackly and broken. Doing it properly (as per Sena instructions) works a lot better!

More pairing issues!

Guys, I've read the various suggestions and tried to match/mix for my own kit.
So, any suggestions (clean please) for the following?

K1600 gtse, zumo 660 gpsnav, scal rider 2 intercom.

I've got the gps working fine with headset including when I have pillion with 2nd scala 2. Phone is irrelevant but, I would like to get the sound from the bike music sytem & mp3 into my headset rather than blasting all in sundry at 0600 hrs of the day!!

Cheers in advance

Basically, you now need to pair the bike to the headset with A2DP protocol. However, I use a Sena rather than Scala so can't help with the detail. It's straightforward enough at the bike end, via the menu system.

Phone needs to be paired to the GPS (if that's the way you want to do it - some people pair it to the headset directly but I don't think that you can do that if the GPS is already paired to the headset).

Just to confirm - you are using a Garmin Zumo 660 in the bike's built-in mount? That changes the ground rules a bit as the Nav IV is very, very similar to the 660 but with BMW software that does some things a little differently. So, don't try to pair the bike with the GPS as that isn't going to do anything useful for you. You should be aiming at phone->GPS->Scala, and bike->Scala.

One thing that's going to complicate things is having two helmets. I believe that the bike can only pair to two helmets if they are BMW helmets (or BMW Communicator in different helmets - not sure, I don't use these). I don't know how the Scala headsets pair between themselves, and how this might interact with the bike and GPS pairings.

So, while I can't help much more, if you could be a bit more specific about what you are pairing with what, then maybe a Scala expert will be along shortly to sort it all out!

Cheers again Nealeb.
Garmin Zumo 660 gps
Scala rider pro Q2 headsets (Rider/pillion)

Headsets are connected fine
GPS connected to riders scala

GPS mounted in bikes cradle

Not worried about phone.

Pairing options from bike give me helmet 1, helmet 2 choices only, with need to pair helmet 1 first, but, although bike recognises scala headset, it will not connect.

He did not make any programming changes. He is saying that a Nav IV is a Zumo 660 with a few programming changes :)

I do not believe that the Zumo 660 can be accessed using the wonder wheel, but I have not attempted it.

Pairing Sena 10 with BMW K1600 GT & GTL

After struggling forever, I have found the correct pairing method now on Sena's website. I know this will work with the most current firmware update:

Paring
1. Pair the SMH10 to Bluetooth phone using SMH10’s HFP selective pairing method (page 16 in
user manual).
2. Pair the SMH10 to BMW BT system using SMH10’s A2DP selective pairing method (page 15 in
user manual). Once SMH10 is in A2DP pairing mode, follow below BMW BT system menu tree to
pair to SMH10.
a. Menu >> Settings >>Audio >> BT Pairing >> Pair Helmet1
b. Select SMH10 from the device listing.Subsequent Reconnection – connections are completed automatically by following these steps.
1. Enable BT on your phone.
2. Power up the SMH10 and verify connection to BT phone.
3. Power up BMW BT system and verify connection (BMW main screen should display solid BT
symbol; symbol should not blink).
If BMW BT system does not auto-connect SMH10, please toggle BMW’s loud speakers on and
off to re-initiate auto-connection by following below menu tree.
a. Menu >>Settings >> Audio >> Loud Speaker >> ON
b. Wait few seconds and select OFF.

I just paired each individual device to the Sena 20s

Android HTC One M8
2014 K1600 GTL-E
NAV V
Wife's Sena 20

Just paired the Wife's Sena 20 to her iPhone5. We use music sharing that can be a tad bit flaky sometimes. Open to ideas on how to manage that.

I am also having trouble pairing my iphone6 to the Nav in my 1600GT-- the devices see each other but will not pair after I input the pin# for my phone. Am I missing a step? The Nav does not ask for a code just ok or cancel. Any clues?

#26 ·
I'm probably wasting your time with this reply, but are you sure that they haven't paired? The phone won't activate (connect) until the NAV sees a connected headset and speakers (usually your Bluetooth connected helmet).

If it's connected, but not active, in the NAV section for Bluetooth devices, you'll see the phone in gray. You should also see the helmet. If that's the case, turn on your connected helmet and the phone should connect.

You can pair the GPS NAV 5 to the phone and head set. The phones gives the NAV5 services information, like weather, traffic etc. and the headset gets the voice directions, but there are other combinations that will give you the same thing, for example, the NAV will give you commands through the bike stereo system speakers, there fore probably through the head set paired to the BMW; however, you may not be listening to the speaker system, but to the head set FM radio or what ever, and not hear the directions, so best to be hooked directly through the NAV5.

Anyone using the Passport Max2 through an Iphone? The only thing that I can't figure out is how to get the SENA to voice-over the radar warning using the Passport app. I got the warning through the my previous head set. The IPhone mapping program will voice over directions.
