I have a 2014 that came with the old manual that says it comes with two remote fobs for the ignition. I only got one. I pointed this out to the dealer and they got me a second fob free under warranty.

2012 and 2013 models came with 2 remotes, then they changed to one only (except for the Exclusive models). You may still ask for a second one, but it depends on the dealer if they give you one for free or charge you the cost (in Europe, it's around 100.- if you buy one).

My second fob story...I have a 2015 GT, purchased in Nov 2014.

At time of purchase, I asked about a second fob...dealer looked for a second - as they thought it should have two too - once it was discovered it only came from the mothership with one, I ended up purchasing a second fob at time of bike purchase.

About a month later, the dealer called and informed me the mothership was reimbursing them for the second fob, and in turn, they were crediting my credit card...very nice!

I would keep the first fob in my riding jacket, and would use the second fob while washing the bike, or moving it around the garage etc...very convenient.

In addition, it was nice having the second fob....as the fob that came with the bike failed last month, and needed replacement under warranty...so it was nice using the second fob, while waiting for the new one to come from Germany...took about a week.

Although, I'm sure the 'emergency key' could have accomplished the same thing...

I asked my dealer and this was his response:

Hello Brad. I asked service to look into the VIN’s of bikes that are supposed to get a 2nd fob and your VIN is not on the list, unfortunately. This is based on production dates and your bike was built after the cut-off.

So some 2015 GT's get 2 and after a certain build date, only 1...All GTL E's get 2...

I asked my dealer and he said one only. I then asked the owners daughter and told her it clearly says two FOBS. Shortly after I got a call saying BMW used to include two, but changed it to one. They changed the manuals, but the ones that were already made or shipped with bike they left alone.

Supposedly they are checking with BMW about getting another. We'll see...

I just got word from my dealer yesterday that I can't get a second one for my 2015. But I never got the plastic key either which I'm still waiting for from them. .

My 2016 GT (Picked up Nov 2015) came with only one key, to the surprise of my dealers owner. He at the time of delivery, mentioned it to me, and said he would make good on the 2nd key. I mentioned my 12' GTL I had just traded in towards the new 16' had two keys, and that I was really in no need of the 2nd key right now, but if things changed (lost, malfunction), I will take him up on the 2nd key....and he said that will be noted in my file in case he's not available at the time I should ever request my second key.

Then about two weeks later, I picked up my 16' R1200GSA and once again, only one keyless fob came with this bike (even though the manual says two keys included...just like my GT manual), so I once again told the owner to note my file, and if/when I ever need my second key, he'd have it noted to be available at n/c.

Not sure if I should take up the offer of both second keys now, or wait until I actually need them? Battery life, fob life, etc?? I've got the plastic under seat thingy, but now this post has me wondering.

Gotta read my manual now.

The way the manual reads, each of us should receive 2-radio controlled FOB's and 1-gray valet key...so if going by that statement, I should have gotten 2 RC FOBs, however there apparently is a cut-off, date of manufacture where you only get 1-RC key FOB and 1-gray valet key :frown:

You should definitely have two FOB, free or otherwise, as I discovered yesterday. See thread "Well DUH":frown:
