Just this evening I was made aware of the Thanksgiving Proclamation that George Washington gave on October 3, 1789. It is an excellent reminder of the blessings that we enjoy in the USA.
Thanks for that Randy & all. Thought you or others might enjoy a little more of the story surrounding our Thanksgiving observance. Much credit goes to a woman named Sarah Josepha Hale whose persistence over 36 years finally landed the attention of then President Lincoln in the depths of our Civil War. Today his writings are considered historically significant works of literary art. This one is as much a fervent prayer as a proclamation. He would go on to deliver the Gettysburg address only ~47 days later. Even more, it would be another ~60 years before his and President Washington's proclamations would actually become a federal holiday.

Cheers!
