Thanks , Duane. That does not make any sense, considering how US riders have freedoms to modify pretty much everything on their bikes, and EU do not. Or I am just ignorant? Anyway, to OP, good luck.

OEM must comply to federal DOT law and certification. After market parts do not. So it may be an issue of having the flashing brake light DOT approved that is the hold up.

We really do not have the freedom to change anything we want on our vehicles it is more local and state police generally have more important things to do than cite you for minor DOT infractions.

It is so great to get the weekly k1600 discussion. I learn so much from all of you guys on our K1600B/GA. So many tips and ideas. I so love my new GA. I am ordering one of those cheap flasher from Amazon. I think it is a great idea to have the top case U shape LED flash like that. I hope it will work with the Can-bus on the BMW. From what I am reading, it is a no brainer. Thank again for sharing it all for us.

I was looking for one that does not strobe each time I apply the brake and there were none I could find.

I finally got a 7$CAN DIY kit (Velleman MK178) that has that adjustment, so first time I brake, it strobes, if you let go the brake less than 7 seconds and brake again, it just lights without strobing.

So when I stop & go in traffic it won't bother the followers.

Options are
- selectable number of flashes: 5 or 10 times
- selectable flash repeat interval: always or not within 5-7sec between two brakes
- flash frequency: 7 times per second

I will install it only on the LED light of the Shad bracket next month

Just looking for the part number of the OEM topcase connector at the moment, if anyone has it, please let me know.

Check this post form 2014 - https://www.k1600forum.com//forum/bmw-k1600-lighting-electrical/50306-add-power-trunk.html

Here's the gist of the connector detail ( assuming you are talking only the Top Case )

"""I haven't given up on the idea of adding pins to the BMW connector. I finally tracked down a solid lead on the exact parts needed. It's a connector made by Kostal. The site I found the info on is foreign, but I was able to navigate it well enough to figure out the exact parts. They don't have online ordering, so if another source can't be found it will take some phone calls. If anyone has some inside info on where parts like these could be obtained in small quantities in the US please let me know!

Details

Web site I found info on: TGS Onlineshop

Female connector from trunk cable:
Part# 09 4310 02
Pin type: "LKS 1,5 socket" (also called buchse on the site)
Tools for insertion/removal: R701 and F425
(not sure what F425 is for)
Male connector from bike:
Part# 09 3310 02
Pin type: "LKS 1,5 stift"
Tools for insertion/removal: R775 and F425
(note, female uses R701 and male uses R775) """"

I have a "flasher" on order and want to use connectors as well but I'm thinking the rear tail light AND the Top Case. That way if the case is off ( the way I ride daily) I'll still have the flashing...

Cheers, Ds

It is likely the same on all the K1600's....see here: Skene Design Motorcycle Visibility Lights
Actually, my connector has 7 pins, 1 ground, 3 x 12v live, 1 x 9v live, 2 x 12v switched with the case lock

Older connectors used to have 6 pins

I tested with my multimeter and there were no change when the brake was applied.

I wonder if guys with the GA version also have 7 pins in their connector and if there is a brake light on the GA topcase

@Snowboy

On my B I have:
Red w/green stripe and black dots
Red w/black stripe
Red w/green stripe
Brown
Purple w/blue stripe
Brown w/blue stripe
Brown w/purple stripe

The extra or 7th wire is the one below the 2 wires at the 12 o'clock position.

Seems like one of those should match up with the GT/GTL brake light.
