I went with a very inexpensive GS-100A module that someone else on the forum had used. Easy-peasy and works great for the eye catching quick flash when brakes are applied. Not fancy, no turn indicator, just 4 quick flashes, 4 slow flashes, then solid brake light. It tucks in right behind the factory brake light insert in the top box.

Is it right, you put it between the LED-light strip before its connected to the box by srews or do you put the module into the case outside the "LED cover"? Hard to describe...

a) LED - GS-100A - topcase mount - hole - cabling to the connector inside the topcase 2 pin

b) LED - topcase mount - hole - GS-110A - cabling to the connector inside the topcase 2pin

I have purchased this module a while ago, but fear:surprise: to cut cable and mount it so far. What I want do is just to have the topcase light flashing and the motorcycles untached because of German regulations.

Thanks in advance.

I removed the light trim piece from the top box and pulled the "blank" that in-fills the light trim when there is no light installed. I cut the wire that was on the light, not the plug wire that's on the bike, to splice in the module. After confirming I had the wires connected correctly, I tucked the module into the hole, and then the light into trim piece and finished the install. It was a fairly tight fit, but it did fit with the trim piece properly re-installed.

I made up a small wire with BMW plug / socket at either end. The module is in the harness, I have also added a 2 way switch so I can switch between flashing or not flashing. I made a small hole so the switch protrudes into the top box and can be controlled from inside the box. I added the switch as when riding in a group some people found it irritating!

No CANBus errors using this approach? Seems too good to be true! :)

Wow! Amazing news! I already have this little guy laying around the garage, which I think is very similar to what you used. I may try to wire this up and see if it works, if not I'll just put the wiring back to it's original state. Does the wiring look similar to what you did?

Thanks @J-Luv !

I used a GS-100A flasher. You can find them online for about $10. It only has 4 wires, 2 in and 2 out. Here is a YT video showing how they're installed. I didn't review the video, just did a quick search. There are several similar videos. Hope this helps. I cannot speak about your similar product.

There are several options available. If you're ONLY interested in making the top box flash I'd go with the Skene IQ-260. The 260 will convert the top case light to a run/brake/flash when braking and led's will flicker all the time. For a few dollars more the IQ-260-D will do the same as the 260 but add flashing when you decelerate.

Like Gunnert said. I use the IQ-260 and it works great!

Quick follow up...

Had a look at this tonight, with the BackOff unit. Good news and bad news.

The good news is, you can wire it up and it works perfectly with no CANBus issues.

The bad news is, it's not small enough to tuck into the light housing. As that's what I'm planning to do, I'll be ordering the GS-100A controller that others have suggested from Amazon. It's much smaller and I'm assuming it fits in there.

For those who are curious, here's the wire you tap into, and also a pic of how the BackOff unit doesn't fit.

I used this small device - you can adjust the frequency and duration that it flashes before going steady ON.

I've set it so that it gives three rapid flashes and then steady ON - my thoughts were that anything more than that becomes an irritation.

The lights being LED on bags and top case is the issue. I just installed the VIZI-TEC kit. Benard has to do extra work to tie in the top case. Took me 15 minutes to install and now the bags and top case flash together. It has 108,000 different combinations you program thru the brake lever (yes, 108k). I have the factory setup now. Will run like that for awhile. If interested, contact [email protected]. This is not a shelf item for him. He makes for Grand American per request. All plug and play.
