Collecting from Wolvercote on Monday
Just popped over to Wolvercote (in the car!) and confirmed that all the Motorrad stuff is now back there, so will drop my bike off on Wednesday. Decided to get a pair of PR5GT's fitted while it's in as I'm not mean enough to try to squeeze another 500 miles out of the factory-fitted T30's that have just 2mm left on them after 5k miles.

My dealer called me 3 weeks ago and said they had the parts and were ready for me to bring the bike in. I arranged a test ride on the 1250 GS the next week so I went in to the dealer and signed the releases and did the paper work and took the bike out. I really like those bikes and was ready to trade in the K16. So I get back to the dealer and he tells me they can't do the transmission upgrade because they need a special tool! They also said that BMW is not just sliding a new cartridge transmission in they have to take the old one apart and replace the defective parts. This was not my understanding and frankly had I known this I would have taken the bike to another dealer with a better service record (these guys pealed the paint of my front wheel trying to change the tire). It's going to be fun watching how long it takes the dealer to get this part and get the bike fixed.

Then the guy tells me he will give me a high trade if I buy the 1250. He says high trade on the 2018 K1600 GT with 6K miles, Corbin seat and engine and panner protection, lowered pegs, and aftermarket higher windshield is $12,400. I think this is lingering into a class action suit. BWM has flat out screwed late model K16 purchasers. The time it has taken to fix this is unfair to the owners. BMW's CYA claim that you can ride it the chances of it tossing you over the bars at 70 mph at low while true, is ridiculous. It amounts to BMW saying we screwed up but go out and risk it so we don't have to buy the bike back or extend your warranty. The list on this bike is crazy: Left pull, throttle that makes the bike dangerous at low speed, poor paint, useless radio system, a reverse that quits working after a few applications and a transmission that grenades. Funny I asked the service guy about the reverse and he said "we can't fix that but you don't really need it anyway". On top of all the less than promised performance issues, the value of this bike has fallen 58% in 1 1/2 years and 6K miles! That's stunning and very unnatural for a bike in this class and it points out that the word is out there this is a seriously flawed bike.

As has already been said, BMW has a lot of experience with recalls. That's not because they are a bad company but because they make and sell a lot of products. So the way they are acting looks more like they are hiding something, and I think that something is that they owe purchasers of the late model K16's a buy back offer.

Just got a call from the dealer. My GTL will have the transmission recall done starting next Tuesday. It should be complete by next weekend, now to figure out the logistics of getting to Cleveland, OH dodging this crazy weather and getting back to Knoxville, TN!!

Congratulation and wow what a nice colour too lol. I don't know why but I love white with most of my cars and bikes being that colour. Well, being safe with the bike being seen is my motivation. Like you Iam hoping to have mine registered and fixed by the end of next week. Enjoy your new bike.

Thanks! Hope you get yours done quickly too!

Now to try and time a plane ride up to Ohio, and then dodge the weather coming back on the road.... I've always been a Cherry / Midnight Cherry kind of guy, but something about this White I really like!!

Joe, I have learnt from years of disappointment with both cars and bikes . Nothing ever goes to plan. Just make sure your bike is really done before you go booking a flight to pick it up. A week or 2 later won't kill any of us after close to 5.5 mths of waiting. Good luck taking her home and please be careful and stay safe.

I bought My GA there - did you get a 2nd letter from IBM or have you been chasing San Jose BMW ?
Didn't wait for first or second letter. Contacted corporate and confirmed my bike was impacted.

Update on the fix: the kit was missing 2 parts (shim and gasket) so the dealer has ordered them. So I would recommend that you check with the dealer before you drop off your K16 and make sure the kit they have for you is complete!

Seen your storm and flooding on Fox, I hope you and all the people around you are all ok. Funny well maybe not funny but we have had 10 years of drought and fires since July 19,I have been waiting for my bike to be delivered and release from BMW due to the stop-sale /recall for over 5.5 mths. Then last week we started to get rain and I said to my other half, I bet my bike turns so now it is raining just about every day with flooding, etc. lol, sure enough, it arrived at the dealership last week, just now instead of BMW doing the recall Gearbox, BMW have palmed it off to the dealership. Now the one mechanic that has the experience and that I trust hurt his leg over the weekend so it's been put back once again.

Spoke with my dealer today. They have completed 2 bikes so far, and I'm on the wait list. He thinks they will be able to get me in over the next 2 weeks.

That was a bit of good news! My new 2019 BGA bike is on the lift and all torn apart in Minnesota. I almost can't believe it. Now, if the mechanic can just do his magic and it tests all out I just have to start the process to have it shipped south. It was 28C (83F) here today and all I could do was wave at the bikers from my SUV as I drove around all envious. (No @Geoff_3, I wasn't on my wife's bike). It's just not the same when I have to 4 wheel it. Bikers just don't wave back.

Um, Harley riders don't wave back lol. How do I know well most of my mates own them and unless you wear the traditional flat black helmet that is an open face and the bike brand, of course, they don't even look at you. Dan, I am feeling the frustrations for you. I got a call today my guy the one Mechanic I trust and want to work on. my bike has a stuffed leg so he needs to see a specialist today and may not be able to do my bike a while. I asked the dealership to wait and see what the outcome is as I prefer to wait a few weeks after 5.5 mths won't hurt me. I should find out where we are by this afternoon and hoping it is good news about his injury. I did ask my dealer principal to leave the registration till next month as it's late in the month and that gives them more time to sort out where they are heading. Plus I just bought an old 2013 Jaguar XF and had to register it so it gives me an extra month between registration of the car and bike then.
