USB on audio - Can't seem to scroll the menu to" USB" from "No USB" !

I've been through the manual re Audio umpteen times but make no progress. I've got a mini ipod and the USB connector plugged into the RHS bike jack.
When getting the SRS button on the LHS for input _the dialog box on screen shows in the middle section "NO USB" and the enclosing line greyed. WIth the rotary controller
I can't shift the menu box up to the upper screen legend which shows "USB" and the three pronged logo.

Took the bike to the Motorad dealer today and unfortunately the technician just rode it into the workshop, did some fiddling and then said I need a cable with 2 male jacks. I got back and have
such a cable and plugged it in. No difference. Just will not allow me to move the dialog box up to the upper "USB" .
When toggling the rotary section , all it does is raise the bars on volume.
Frankly it's become a pain now. Any one else found how to work this ? Thanks if I can get a solution.

You may have a cable that is not allowing the system to recognize the device. It's a special expensive BMW cable...or the same one from Mini is less expensive and reportedly works 100%.

I can't testify to the male to male aspect as I don't use the USB portion. I do run a 3.5 male into the compartment for listening to iPhone music over the speakers on occasion. I can only say that I've read many reports on the forum of specifically needing the correct adapter to utilize the USB feed when using an MP3 type player, particularly iOS models.

The “usb” is a source. You have to use the source button to change between different audio inputs. The cable you need has a usb and a 3.5 jack to the Apple connector. BMW or Mini will work. CHeap eBay cables won’t last long.

The USB works without any cable. If you download your MP3 iTunes to a USB and select USB as source then all your tunes will appear, each directory on the USB is an Album so you can rearrange your favourite tunes into an Album starting with a name like AAA and it will be first on the list.

The cabling is for those who want music through the Aux with some apple control but my ipod is so old I never bothered.

The other alternative is that you buy something like the Earstudio bluetooth to Aux and use that to play music thru the aux port, another source. This is what I ended up doing and it was by far the best solution but you can only change tunes on your phone

I'm fairly certain this will allow charging and audio feed, but without the wonder wheel control. I have a similar adapter for my handlebar mounted phone, except it is USB and female 3.5. I have USB/lightning power to iPhone and can feed a 3' 3.5 male to male into the cubby and listen to iPhone over the speakers. I don't need the WW control as I have either VOX via Cardo headset or just touch screen as the phone is directly in front of me. This braided unit looks more robust than one of the adapters I have.

Hi , Thanks I have done that already but no joy .I've taken a photo of the screen and when I upload it you will see the "No USB" in the menu and I can't get the magic wheel to go up to the
USB section. I've never had radio - let alone an ipod etc -on when on the road. But I've got a trip from south Norway to the top Nordkapp upcoming and thought having a bit of Greig etc on the
journey might be appropriate. At this rate all I have is frustration!!.

Someone above mentioned the left hand buttons. I think he's on to something with that. Toggle through the SRC button (by pressing repeatedly) and see what scrolls on the display. Or is the SRC (source) button what you're working with already?

The No USB error has been around forever. What I found was that I would get the error if there were files on the usb stick that the bike could not handle. Try Touring Tim’s advice. If it works then your issue is bad/incompatible files on the failing device.

Just be sure there are only working, simple MP3’s, nothing else on the test drive.

Hi, Yeap I've only put 1 MP3 file on a blank USB. Nothing else on the stick as I .like you, suspected if there was any other file etc then the bike would not read it. I'll post this screen shot to the
Motorrad dealer as see what they make of it. ( methinks they see this older bloke and think internally "does he know what a PIN number and is he still using cheques?" Ha ha...the insolence of youth!!

I rode last night. I show same No USB message and unable to scroll. Good luck with those whippersnapper shop techs.

Thanks ,I'll have to find out. FYI the bike I got only had 4335 miles and methinks was not opened up much. With 6100 miles - a trip London to Shetland - the exhaust note is much more rasp now under acceleration and as for the music this soundtrack is pretty good! Again thanks for your help. Upcoming trip to Nordkapp in July hence trying to get the music to work as radio stations may be limited!

Thanks ,I'll have to find out
When I'm back in the UK, I'll get your details and send you my Earstudio setup of my 2019 K. It's definitely the best option, it connects to the USB for power and Aux for input and your phone with Bluetooth. An app allows you to tweak the gain to get the best sound both on speakers and helmet.

It turns on and off with the bike

Not sure when I'm back but I won't forget

Here's the spec on amazon, but you need to buy short USB lead as well if you decide to buy.

A couple of things here.... I have a genuine BMW Y adapter (part# 61 12 2 344 300) and the audio system still won't see an iPod - I've been told there are several BMW versions of the cable sigh :(

What it will do is charge the iPod, and allow me to use the aux input for the music - I can't change track/playlist etc without stopping and using the iPod. So, on a 160gb iPod classic I just need to sort out my playlists before I set off.

As for the USB Issue, it's an intresting one. I put a load of music on a micro sd card and then put it in an adapter connected to the USB, it worked fine... I changed some of the tracks on the micro SD card and when I put it back on the bike I got the no USB issue... I remembered that the adapter wasn't the same one, so replaced the adapter and it works fine again (same micro usb card throughout), so there must be something about the adapters that is different, and I suspect the same could be true about the USB memory sticks people have used.

Now if I could only figure out the correct version of the BMW Y cable for a 2011 GT.....

On the bold, I can confirm that BMW Part # 6112 2408012 01 works very well. I leave that adaptor in the compartment, and have a 3 foot “extension cable” from the adapter up to my handlebars. When not riding, the cable coils up and stays in the compartment. While riding, the extension cable is extended to my iPhone at the handlebars, and the door closes on the cable and pinches it. No problems after 5+ years. I control my iPhone music from the wonderwheel. Song title is displayed on the motorcycle screen.

Just be aware that the BMW adapter needs to be plugged into the bike, BEFORE you plug the extension cable into your phone. There is a “chip” in the adapter that needs to be powered up BEFORE plugging in your phone. If you do like I do, your adapter is never unplugged from the bike so this is really a moot point. If I do start the engine when my phone is plugged in, then I get NO USB on the screen. Simply unplug your phone, restart the engine, then plug in your phone.
