Our alarm backup batteries have a 10 year shelf life. Not really sure how long they last in the bike. After 6 years, I changed mine today. 90 mins start to finish and that included cleaning every part as it came off the bike. Wouldn't want a 3 dollar battery sticking me on the side of the road on a long ride.

@coyotek , that's a new one on me. I've never given those batteries a second thought. BTW, the 10 year shelf life is off a bit, mine have been installed/running for over 11 years. :)

Are steps to change on the Maintenance DVD?

10 yr shelf life is a min spec to something like 80% of original capacity. Probably varies my mfg. I would guess they last pretty long IF you keep your bike battery installed. Yes, in the manual.

Once you get that gas tank out it will be clearly visible. :)

@Gunnert Does that ABS unit have to move out of the way of the big nut? Mine moves a little but doesn't really clear.
Only ever so slightly just to access the nut. It will be hard to move! You'll almost have to use a pry bar, it's that hard to move.
