Akrapovic Exhaust

Hi all,

I'm due to have fitted on Thursday an Akrapovic slip on Exhaust for my K1600 2015 model, dealer in UK is charging me £1700

Just wondering anyone else has the pipes fitted and what they think, I think the stock sound is OK, but I'm hoping the Akrapovic will sound better.

It's a lot of money and I just want to know I'm not wasting it? Assume they still hold their price on the 2nd hand market if I remove when I sell the bike?

Thanks in advance!

If just for the sound, I would avoid installing the new exhaust. Of you have a GTL, you can find a thread on this forum about drilling a couple of holes in each of the exhausts to improve the sound (and making them, basically, a GT exhaust). If you have a GT, I still believe the slip-on sound is nearly the same as the stock GT.

I listened to a set of Akrapovic vs. standard when I brought my GT and they are not that much louder and only sound a little deeper in my view. Worse thing in my view is they have no removable DB killer like most other Akrapovic items... At the end of the day your choice, but if you want a much louder sounds there are other (cheaper:)) choices. Peter

I have the factory Akrapovic exhaust (without the yellow stickers) and the look and sound great. Many other K1600 riders I've ridden with love the sound. Not sure I would pay $2kUSD for them but they were on the bike when I purchased it. It had 4k miles at that time.

I also have the factory Akra's and like the looks especially the carbon fibre, and the sound. The sound is not so noticeable when starting and idling, but crank it up on the road and there is a big difference from stock. The nice thing is they are not obnoxiously loud. I have also noticed that as time has gone on they have become a bit throatier, perhaps due to the packing breaking down a bit. A big expense for sure though.

I love my Akropovic exhaust, very well made, lighter that stock, not loud but a deeper growl. I also have Remus headers which made it a bit louder too. I am very happy with the looks and sound, some may think they are too expensive, I did not.

addiding:

I heard Akras on a wethead and they were loud and ballsie. These on the 16, the Akra appear to me just as bulky as the stock and no that much different in sound.

So my question is: What is the reason for an Akra replacement? What is the marketing sale pitch?

...I 'll have to look it up...

compared the bike with standard exhausts and the akra's to be honest there is not a great deal of difference in sound, they are way to expensive to buy from the dealers ,secondhand you dont get anyway near what you pay for them ..if you are going to go ahead i would purchase them direct or from another supplier you will save a fair bit , an easy job to slide off the old and fit the new ,,the hattechs sound brilliant dont know if it would affect your warranty or if the engine would need a remap...i think they are built to order and around £2,000.00 (i think )

Well I bought them in the end, just like the look to much expensive. But when your shelling out the kind of money on to purchase the bike, thought what the **** in the end. In terms of sound this is what I've found on the way back from the dealers today.

1. On initial start up you are greeted with a nice growl
2. On tick over they are very quiet about the same as stock
3. Drive down the road normal driving you can hear them purr
4. NOW.... When I did some over taking and got the rev's up... MAN DID THEY SOUND SWEET! much better than the GT stock exhaust. A nice cracking deep ROAR! is heard.

OK so I know I won't get my money back, but I will get something on the 2nd hand market when I come to sell, but I'm not intending to sell for a long time. This bike is amazing.

Now my only other problem is my little legs I'm on tip toes! 29 - 30 leg length, need to find a lower seat. Tried the BMW one but there was not much difference.

So if anyone is looking for slip on's I do recommend the pips, expensive I know but I feel worth it.

i have the same leg length problem ..solved mine with the daytona m star boots they have a raised heel , the largest size they do is a 9 if i were remeber rightly ,just right for me,these are a good quality boot but can be expensive they going for around £300 to £400 on e bay i bought mine direct for £230

I make links to lower the rear of the bike 1/2 inch , one inch or 1.5 inches . So you can flat foot . I have a set of Akras on my lowered GT and I like them for the weight savings and the design .To save some money almost any one can remove the stock cans and put the new ones in place .The same with the lowering links .
