I have had system 7 carbon for about a week (white), I am unable to comment on the schuberth as I have not tried one. The bmw lid is very light however at about 1590g, open config it is 1050g. Used it several times on cold mornings with temps about 3-6 deg C, with no issues. Ventilation seems ok, after a couple of 200k plus rides in temps around 25-30 deg C there was no sweating (for me anyway). I do like the quick release straps and inner liner comfort. Visor, modular latch and sun shield are all easy to find and opp with gloves on or off. Hard to fault ATM, I did try a shoe neotech if it's any help. The shoe did feel a little bit heavier to me, and with my neck not as young as it used to be I went for the carbon. Hope this helps.?

 

Schuberth makes the System Helmet,. so the style is different but the standards are the same. Some one posted a helmet comparison site a few weeks back.

I know lots of riders like these modular/system/flip fronted helmets these days, but it's the hinge &/or locking mechanism that has always troubled me, so I stick with a full face helmet, usually Arai or Shoei as their shell shapes suit my noggin. Riding buddies of mine swear by them, but when I reflect, most are either ex-police bikers, spectacle wearers or smokers. I have a Schuberth FF, but I find it hot & ventilation poor, albeit quiet.

Each to their own I guess, but I would like to think we all remember to wear a decent helmet all the time we are riding & not some novelty shop thing not fit for a cyclist.

I get the concern for a flip-up helmet over a full face, but for me, the daily convenience is worth it.

I'm also using top-of-the-line helmets with metal latches and solid hinge points, whereas I'd be much less comfortable with some of the cheaper flip-up offerings.

And I've unfortunately had the chance to crash test my Schuberth helmets and had no issues at all with helmet integrity or protection.

I know every crash is different, but for my money, Schuberth consistently produces a high-quality, comfortable, and protective helmet.

And the built-in intercom, speakers, and mic is a bonus with the latest C4.

 

Testing my new BMW System 7 Helmet Modular Carbon size 60-61

I have tested with my motorcycle K1600 GTL 2018, it is important to take into account because of the protection I have of the wind with the fairing of this motorcycle.

Price: $ 775 plus taxes (Canada)

Comparison with my previous helmet BMW System 6 (modular)

Ventilation : The ventilation vent on the top of the helmet seems to me less effective on the 7 than on the 6. However since I usually ride with my helmet visor always raised and my motorcycle windshield is also mostly a little raised, this vent had little use. There were times when I was very hot to lower my motorcycle windshield to the lowest and close my helmet visor completely to have an air circulation. It must be understood that when the visor of the helmet is raised it obstructs the air intake of the ventilation opening of the top of the helmet. On the other hand the most important advantage for me of the new helmet 7 is that chin guard is removable very easily. Thus, I will finally have a good ventilation because my helmet visor will not obstruct the ventilation opening since it is removed at the same time as the chin guard.

Weight: The second most important benefit for me from the helmet 7 is that by removing the chin strap the weight of the helmet is reduced to 1.3KG compared to 1.7KG for the helmet 6. The helmet 7 has a total weight of 1.6KG with The chin guard.

I know this headset is unfortunately not sold in the United States. The helmet 7 is my third helmet BMW (System 4 and System 6) and I never had any problems with these helmets except the replacement of two worn parts on the 6 which prevented the visor from being closed by wind.

The only disadvantage that I have identified on the helmet 7 is that the visor does not stay raised to more than 100KM hour with a little wind. But it is less important for me since I will use the chin guard only when it is raining!

Hopefully this will enlighten those who have interest in this helmet.

Although I'd hesitate to ride witout the chin guard in place, as every helmet I've crashed has had the chin guard severly rashed, even though I suffered no head injuries at all.

In fact, I might hesitate to trust the chin guard at all, if it can be so easily removed...

Please post any reviews you have with the system 7 and the BMW comm system. I am seriously considering this helmet. Can the microphone on the BMW system be used with the system 7 helmet (so you can talk with a passenger or on the phone)?

 

I ordered and paid for a pair of them for my wife and I when I bought my K16 GT in late September. My wife loves hers but I haven't tried mine yet as I+ left it with the dealer until he receives and installs the BT kit which, in a time-honoured BMW tradition, will most likely arrive around Xmas (hopefully this Xmas).

My wife's doesn't have the BT kit as she only comes on short rides, but based on my experience with the System 6 helmet and kit, it should work fine. I'm very happy with mine, although for the price BMW sells the **** thing, it's quite limited and doesn't even have LiIon batteries, which sucks balls.

I'll post back once I get mine if you're interested in feedback.

I have the BMW system 7 helmet, I like to use the open visor when it is very hot but it closes by itself.
Is there a solution ???

My wife and I both have system 7 helmets and no, the visor will not stay open. The helmet flips open and that stays there. BMW state in the manual you must not ride with the visor open at speed. We have had ours for nearly two years now, and quite happy with them.

I have the system 7 with comms and, truthfully I’m not impressed. Battery life is rubbish, 4-6 hours if I’m lucky. (I get 24+ with a Nolan or cardio system). To use the jet pilot mode it’s a serious stuff around, worse to reassemble.
It is good in the cold though and having wonder wheel control is great.
I prefer my Nolan N44 or Shark Evoline. I bought a new Evoline a few days ago.

 

So.... My better half and I also have System 7 helmets, and the Cardo Packtalk Bold duo. Love them both but also frustrated with the visor closing at speed.

Currently using the 4mm Square one which you can see in the images. They are clear cupboard door bump stops.

The theory being that, positioned correctly, they provide a "step" that the visor has to overcome before it can close. Because they are silicon they do yield if you pull the visor down to close but, so far, they provide enough resistance to stop it closing at speed. When you do pull the visor down they squash just a little so the visor runs over the top of them.

Tried it for a few days and so far the visor has only closed once and that was at almost 100mph with the screen lower than I would usually have it.

To fit, I just opened the visor fully and pushed the silicon stop up against it. The glue seems pretty strong but not sure how long they will last. However they are pennies to buy so I can just replace.

I've also checked that you can still remove the visor in the normal way and I can report no issues.

I know it's a first world problem but hopefully this may help someone.
