Finally ,,,, it is now a reality ((see JMBT-DNG22-A2DP Product Information ,,,,,,,

The first connection harness we are releasing is for the Gold Wing ((see JMBT-D22CH-GL1815 Product Information ,,, but the harness for the 16GTL will follow right on it's heels, and then of course the one for the R12RT ,,,,,

I am using a local Tucson based 16GTL to configure and test the new dongle connection harness next week ,,,,,

I am going to try and make the installation as easy as possible, keeping everything under the seat if I can ,,,,,,

one question I have for the forum members here is HOW IMPORTANT is the radar detector interface cable beep input feature for YOU ? ,,,,,

I vote for having the option of being able too hear the audio beeps from the radar detector.

Ok John, guess that settles it, build them with audio capabilities.

Basically it's a box that replaces the wired connection from your audio on the bike to the headset in your helmet with a wireless bluetooth connection. Dual means it goes to rider and passenger. Of course you'll need a bluetooth headset in your helmet(s) as well.

I'm guessing that this means we can use two non-BMW Bluetooth headsets on the K16? Could this be the holy grail for The big6's intercom woes?

Chipper ,,,,,,

yes ,, very obvious, the cable set for the GTL will have the J&M radar adapter plugs,,,,,

Brick ,,,,,,

that is correct ,,, any brand Bluetooth headset that has the A2DP stereo profile in it's software stack should work very well ,,,,, including J&Ms shown here J&M Wireless Products ,,,,,,

SteveD ,,,,,,

yes.. $99.99 ,.,,,,,,,

selil ,,,,,,

second GPS audio signal ? ,,,,,, maybe,,,,,,, I will specifically try that this week while I am finishing up the R&D on the project,,,,,

For $400 I'll stick with music sharing/audio blending during an intercom session on the SENA 20s, works great. :gm

If I didn't already have the SENA I would give it another look.

Looks like no advantage over my dual Sena SMH10 with streaming audio to the second helmet. I have all functionality between bike audio, phone via Nav5 and Nav 5 to headsets

#18 ·
ease of use, superior audio quality to both driver & passenger Bluetooth headsets ,,,, no batteries to charge and automatic linking each time you turn on the ignition ,,,

those are some of the advantages so far that we offer ,,, compared to the competition ,,,,,

Audio from the radar detector is the biggest reason I would even consider going with something like this. How would cellphone audio via the GPS integrate with this?

#20 ·
the cell phone would be simultaneously linked with the J&M A2DP dual-dongle, to whichever brand Bluetooth headset you are using ,,,,,, and the passenger could link her own cell phone to her Bluetooth headset as you both share the same stereo music source ,,,,

on the 16GTL, the factory GPS commands come thru the same audio source/speakers as the dongle is using for the stereo link ,,,,,, so you would hear the GPS nav commands from the J&M dongle as well as the stereo music ,,,,,,,,,

J&M bluetooth system

J&M is close to putting their new bluetooth system on the market. They've installed a pre-production version on my 2013 GTL. We had some issues to start, but they seem to have cleared up. Both intercom and music got garbled several times on a short ride on Saturday. My helmet also dropped the music connection several times while riding, although the passenger's music remained on. A re-start of my Sena didn't solve the problem. What finally did solve the problem was shutting both Senas off, shutting the bike off, turning on the bike, and turning on the Senas. The problem has not recurred. I took the bike out with both helmets, (but sans the back seat passenger) on Sunday. Everything worked fine, switching between intercom and music, shutting music off and turning it back on, etc. The garbled sound hasn't returned and my helmet hasn't dropped the music connection.

This is a great system, and I love not being physically wired to the bike. The sound quality is a vast improvement over the BMW bluetooth connection. There is no fooling around with pairing, with both helmets reliably staying paired since the initial set-up. One thing I would advise for at least first time connections, is to turn the bike on first and then the helmets. Initially, that's the only way mine would connect, but now it doesn't care.

Very interested in this!
Can John or someone in the know please answer a couple of questions on this A2DP BT unit?

  • Is there a way to separately adjust the volume of the passenger & rider?
  • Once paired and listening to music, can you tell me the sequence to active/deactivate the intercom?
  • Can both rider & passenger activate/deactivate intercom?
  • How is the fidelity of this system? (using the cabled system with J&M elite 629 headsets vs. J&M Performance Series Bluetooth Headset) on say the CTZ helmet.
Thanks!

I just spoke with Andy @ J&M about the questions I had above.......John mentioned he'd be the best contact regarding this.
Here's a quick summary of the comments...

  • Each person has direct volume control on their BT setup on the helmet via the BT headset on each helmet
  • Activate and deactivation of the intercom is done via a button on each BT headset. Either unit can activate or deactivate the intercom. A tone is heard in the headset when the intercom is activated.
  • Yes both Activate/Deactivate
  • Fidelity is a huge step above other BT systems and definitely much better than the BMW setup. Very little, if any, discernible difference from a wired system to this new dual BT dongle. He also mentioned if the BT headset from J&M is purchased it will offer the best fidelity as the dongle is "tuned" to this headset and offers superior sound quality.
He answered all my questions and I now have enough confidence to invest in this system.
I really want to go BT but was hesitant due to the possible fidelity loss.
Now I'm confident this is the way to go!

I just spent the morning doing the final ride for production approval of the new J&M A2DP Bluetooth dual-dongle system for the K1600GTL ,,,,,,

after all of this time, effort, investment and running off at the mouth, this system is finally a reality ,,,,, dongle is here http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=JMBT-DNG22-A2DP ,,,,,

dongle install harness with radar beep integration for the 16GTL is here http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=JMBT-D22CR-16GTL ,,,,,,,

both are available NOW until the first batch is sold out ,,,,,,

I will be the first to say that this stuff is not cheap, but it IS worth it and provided THE BEST Bluetooth helmet headset experience I have ever had on a motorcycle ,,,,,,

most of you who know me, know that I have always been partial to corded headsets ,,,,,

well with the sound quality & volume increases of the new J&M WLS465 series headsets with the hi-intensity speakers, ((see http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=HS-WLS465-UNV )) combined with J&Ms new A2DP dual-stereo dongle ,,,,,,, on my ride today I had very enjoyable music at well over 100 on the interstate, crystal clear phone conversations with our guys back at the shop, loud and positive radar detector beeps into my headset to keep me aware of Arizona's finest, and seamless one-toggle bike to bike intercom with the other motorcycle riding with me ,,,,,,

I am not sure what more I could ask for ,,,,, I am impressed ,,,,

By the way, I was riding with an off the shelf (here at J&M), HJC IS-Max2 helmet, with J&Ms WLS-465 headset custom installed ,, ((see http://www.jmcorp.com/HJC-IS-Max-2-Helmets.asp ,,,,

New video on all of this to follow in about 3 weeks ,,,,,

Merry Christmas to everyone here at K1600GTL Forums ,,,

DW ,,,,,

you are not being nick-picky at all ,,, that is a very good question ,,,

1 ,,, the unit does NOT mount under the seat like I had contemplated in the past, it finds it's home inside the left side lower fairing storage compartment ,,,, and you can leave it there forever if you want to ,,,,

2 ,,, the dual USB plugs are for possible future software updates to the twin Bluecore8 modules inside, although I rarely see a need to update the basic A2DP stereo Bluetooth software ,,, as that is really pretty well established and standardized to connect to most any Bluetooth headset that also lives within the previous A2DP software standards already set ,,,,
