My Nav V shutdown with an error message last month while updating maps and GE didnt see it anymore. Using Windows 10 File Manager it didn’t see the Nav V regardless of each USB port or cable I used, or what version of GE I used.

Phoned Garmin help and tried to do a master rest with no luck. Garmin has an exchange program for a fee that allows for return of the non functioning unit out of warranty for a reconditioned unit that I received yesterday. The reconditioned Nav was charged briefly and then connected to GE where it was registered and showed the updates available to install.

 

Garmin Express Ver 7.3.1.0 works fine on my Windows 10 Pro PC. Garmin Express Ver 6.14 works fine on my MacBook Pro running Big Sur.

 

Just updated to Garmin Express V7.3.1.0 on Windows 10 PC. No issues.

Just did and GE report an error. Rebut and was able to install the latest Maps.

 

Thanks for the reply guys, I am at a loss as to what to try next. Looking at the internet for answers their are some who have had issues and others not. When I run a .fixit it shows the Garmin Express program is not compatible. Have never had an issue up until a month ago.

 

Just updated express today. I have latest windows 10 updates and program works well.

 

I had an old suction-cup mounted Garmin GPS in my car (probably 15 years old or more) that still worked fine but needed an update. I don't remember now the exact app I used (may have just been the Garmin web site) but at any rate the Garmin updater proceeded to brick the formerly working unit, after which it would not update, could not be used at all - completely non-functional. I contacted Garmin for help and was told, basically, "tough luck, your unit was too old, and no we won't compensate you for destroying your GPS - but feel free to buy a new one". Yeah the unit was old but this is just stupid. Not a big fan of Garmin after that, sorry to be stuck with a Nav IV on the GTL.

 

Remove the program, run a registry cleaner to remove any entries. Remove the directory in program directories, reboot and try again.

The Garmin 660 would be the first place I would look.. As the GPS units get older, they exhibit similar problems. I never remember having those issues with the Streetpilots.

 

Have been using Garmin Express to update maps on Nav. IV and now Nav. V. Was working fine a month ago and now Garmin Express will not open? Have tried everything, uninstalled/reinstalled Garmin Express, latest 7.3.1.0 software, called Garmin and went through every fix process they had, have Windows 10, latest updates, looked on the internet for fix, seems it operating with Windows 10 is a known issue, tried all fix it listed by Windows, frustrated now. Does anyone else have the same issue, fix it?

Have never gotten that POS app to work. And Garmin was zero help. Started trying back in 2018. Their software is garbage.

 

Well I spent over an hour with Microsoft tec. they did remote access and no luck, answer call Garmin as GE is not compatible with Windows 10, known issue. Thanks for nothing, each one pointing the finger at the other.

 

I have exactly the same problem. My GE used to work fine with windows 10, but fired it up a couple of days ago and it hung at the splash screen. Did all the fixes recommended by Garmin which didnt help. Garmin support says I need a Microsoft tech person to fix it. No hope!

 

Garmin's website says it will work with Win7 and up. I just upgraded mine and it works fine my Win10 desktop. There was a firmware update for the NavVI that I installed.

 

@ferrasr was going to try running GE on another PC after a Microsoft tech couldn’t resolve the GE Windows 10 conflict on his PC.

 

Hoping my son will be back in town on Sunday and if so will go over to his house and try it on his PC, will keep you posted.

Well I was over at my sons house, downloaded Garmin Express 7.3.1 onto his PC running Windows 10 Home and guess what, Garmin Express program opens, plugged NAV.V into USB, program recognizes BMW NAV. V, updates it with no issues. Now I am even more frustrated why the program has stopped working on my PC and neither Garmin or Microsoft has an answer as to why!

Here are a couple of screen shots from his PC, shows NAV.V up to date as well I noticed Garmin Express does not have to run in compatibility mode on his PC?

Garmin Express working again!
Every few weeks I was downloading the latest Garmin Express to see if it would run again. This morning I downloaded the latest Windows 10 updates, then down loaded Garmin Express 7.5.0V. I then ran Compatibility trouble shooter for the program, it opened this time and I saved the settings. So obviously for me there was some software compatibility issue that the latest downloads resolved. Updating the GPS now.

Randy - thanks for posting your update. This prompted me to do exactly the same, and guess what - my GE has started working again as well. Needs to run in Windows 8 compatability mode, but I am now in business downloading a map update.

GE 7.4.2 ran windows 10/64 bit without comparability mode needed. Just now updated to 7.5.0.0, runs just fine. Windows 10 64 bit.
