Schuberth helmet charging question:

I’m doing an Iron Butt 1,000 this Saturday and the helmet charge is supposed to be good for about 12 hours. Is that the case? Any suggestions for getting it charged on the bike or should I just plan to turn it off on long sections of highway?

Mine lasted 12 hours with the music playing.. if it's just on without any talking or music playing.. it should last longer.. you can charge it on the go with a USB cable plugged into a USB to bmw socket.

Dan this is one of the reasons that I stayed with a corded helmet. I just finished a 16 hour day and I do not know of a Bluetooth system that will run that long with out being plugged in to be recharged. Plugging in a bluetooth helmet sort of defeets the reason for getting a bluetooth helmet. Yes I do have a Schuberth for around the town quick trips.

As you know, the battery is huge releative to something like a Scala G4's built-in battery. My experience is that if you are ony sporatically using it to generate music in the headset speakers (a significant drain, it will go well beyond 12 hours.

On-board charging isn't an issue, if you are willing to live with a cord from one of the power outlets to the helmet (with a 12V-to-mini-USB 5V cigarette lighter converter in the line). Not that I believe it would be necessary, but for "belt-and-suspenders" sake, you could install the charger wire at a gas stop at around the 10-12 hr point, and then remove it at the next gas stop.
