I'm unable to find any information on this thread regarding K1600B Dealer software updates. My Dealer informed me that BMW has a software upgrade for my 2018 Grand America for what they call "Drivability Improvements", and I can have them install the update anytime during my next service appointment.

How do I get more information on exactly what this "Drivability Improvement" is for my bike?

Thanks
Kevin

I asked my closest dealer if they could do an update on my '18 k1600GA and he looked up the VIN. They had done the 600 miles maint on it last June or July. He said because it didn't have any 'campaign' notices on it, it would be $60 for .5 hour labor to do it. Bike was purchase a year ago this month out of state, not sure of build date but an update was applied at that 600 miles service. He could not clairify any specifics to the upgrade other there was something in/related German-wise he didn't understand what that was.

Is this a resonable situation (the $60). I know the GAS gauge doesn't go to the top. I've heard references of hill-stop and oil display impacted of the upgrade.

No, that's crap, there is a update for the fuel gauge as well, and they should be doing all and any updates at no cost, as bmw pays them to do it. Its not a campaign, it's a software update that the manufacturer pushes. Now, that being said, some dealers may want you to be in for a service, or some other reason to do that. But, if your gauge isn't correct, they should do any updates at that time. Sounds like a crap dealer to me, or just a poor service dept.

FWIW, when I heard about this update, I sent an email to the service manager of the BMW dealer that is closest to me asking him if there were any updates on my B. Gave him the VIN. He confirmed that there was an update available and we setup an appointment for me to bring it in. Cost me nothing. Bike is under warranty. I didn't even buy the bike from this particular dealer. As others have said, this is probably considered warranty work and they are reimbursed by BMW.

On my 2 previous BMW bikes, I had this done a couple of times. The F800GT was not under warranty so they charged me $25 for computer time. On the R1200RT, which was under warranty, they charged me nothing.

The service reminder light (oil change) however is a different matter - they have always charged me between $25-50 to reset that light.
