Hi, be aware that some fixes are also done after the warranty has expired.
Perhaps someone who has experience with this can explain for what cases this applies. My dealer has occasionally did modifications after 11 years, but that is surely something rare.

Usually, at least in my case, the free repairs after the warranty has expired are due to a recall.
BMWNA is actually one of the better motorcycle companies with regards to "good will" post-warranty repairs. They may not cover 100% of the cost (for example, they pick up the parts, you pick up the labor), but they sometimes do, and my experience is they are pretty good about attending to things that shouldn't have failed (things like a tranny shaft that goes at 40K).

The real key appears to be relationships -- yours with your dealer, and your dealer with his/her regional rep. If your dealer is willing to press the issue on your behalf with the rep, you have a much greater chance of success in getting at least partial coverage.

In the US its 3 years-36,000 miles. the dealer gets paid his posted labor rate for labor and full list for parts required. The amount of labor paid is from the flat rate manual. A good dealer has a good relationship with BMW which in turn results in a good ongoing relationship with the customer.

A dealer hates the type of customer that grinds on the dealership for every little thing. If you treat a good dealership with respect, that good dealership will in turn go to the matt for the customer if ever needed.

I've had 6 BMW bikes and I can tell you their warranty and customer service are top shelf. I've not had a single problem with a BMW dealer on any warranty issue and coming from Harley Davidson I was used to the opposite. After being screwed on every warranty issue with HD it's been great switching to BMW. As for BMW cars, I found the dealership here went to the HD school of "how to screw the customer", would not have another BMW car if it was free.
