Water pump improved design - replaced myself

At approximately 44k miles my water pump failed on my 2012 K1600GTL.

At the cost of approx. $300 I purchased a new pump (BMW part number 11518544999). The new pump came with new o-rings.

Markings on the rear of the pumps (see photos), indicate a newer design:
New:16163/02, built in 2015
Old:15548/02, built in 2010

The casting on the rear of the new pump is also different, denoting a new and improved design.

I purchased the BMW coolant from Autozone in a NON-mixed concentrate (Pentofrost NF Coolant/Antifreeze (1.5 Liters) - Pentosin). Azone is phasing the non-mixed fluid out and going to only carry the pre-mixed coolant in the future.

Approx 2 hr timeframe

Gooddog - It took very little time (2 hrs) to get down to the pump, drain the system and get it replaced. Since I am so close to the 48k service and have so much apart I decided to tackle the spark plug replacement and also fix a valve cover oil leak at the bushings.

If I were just replacing the pump, I would do it myself again, no problem.

No special tools were needed to get to the pump.

How long did it take you to swap the pump out from start to finish? Looks like an easy swap, no?

Same physical size

The two units are the same size. I posed the new unit to the front of the photo and the old unit behind it, which gave the larger/smaller perception.

The only difference, which does make the new unit a different size, is the new unit has a newly designed seal.

The new pump appears to be physically larger in the photos than the old one?
